I'm not so sure. I'm not convinced he can do anything really with ball in hand anymore but I do think our last tackle is all the poorer when he isn't on the field. This was shown on Friday I think when he was off during the second half. I don't want Tommy being involved in the kicking game, he's rubbish at it!

Whether Deacon's on the pitch or not. One thing Wigan haven't done much of this year are grubber kicks into the in goal area. Leeds scored two against using that tactic, and Cas a similar amount a few weeks earlier. No matter how strong an oppositions defense is, the grubber kick is some what indefensible.

Yet I can't think of the last time we scored a try from a grubber kick. It's always the bomb to the corner we finish with.

That's why the solution to giving Deacon a rest isn't Leuluai or O'Loughlin but Mellor or, at a push, Powell. As it stands Deacon's input is a strong kicking game on the last tackle, decent passes from right to left to start the passing moves but then poor defence, poor passing to his right and some unforced errors.
I just don't see Deacon losing his place to anyone other than Leuluai or O'Loughlin though.

If you look at the scuffle at the end of last week's game. There are some verbals and shirt grabbing until Coley runs in and gobs Bailey. That was the first punch and he'll get banned.

As an aside, Lima scored from a grubber against Saints and Sam scored from a grubber last week.

Again shows why it was stupidity from Sam to take the tap. Taking the two would have meant a 28-24 win, better points difference (if only by a few), no scuffle and therefore no ban, plus everyone would have got home about a minute earlier. As Bilko said in his report, Sam is a brilliant player but to take the tap at that stage in the game was just plain stupid, if Coley gets banned and we struggle against cas it could cost us top spot. The only time I would see a tap acceptable would be if we needed 3 points more to go top of the league or something.

It was absolutely fecking ridiculous for Sam to take a tap and run at the Leeds defence. What the bloody hell he was thinking I'll never know and it may now cost us a prop forward for a very difficult run in of games. If he wanted to wind Leeds up, take the two points himself - don't run at a set of Leeds forwards that have just lost the game. Idiot.

Thought Tuson had a decent game on Friday, and he at least got the week off before it having been banned after the Saints game so might be slightly fresher than others. I do worry, as above, that we might be resorting to three props again which hasn't always proven to be a good move for Madge, but maybe this is the chance to see Hock given a go there.

Not too surprised that there aren't any other changes to the squad for this one - I didn't really expect Madge to shake it up loads and stick in a few kids, he always seems to go for the strongest line-up at his disposal regardless of opposition or circumstances.

I'm not really counting this one as 'backing up' from Friday in any case - they've had as long of a gap between Friday and Wednesday as they would've between Sunday and Friday fixtures. Saturday will be the big ask in terms of stamina, but hopefully we'll see the same sort of Quins performance we got up here last month.

If Coley is banned Mcguire will be able to bring another player into his 19.
His choice would be interesting. My preference would be either Crosby or Davies.
He surely won't go with just Mossop and Lima plus Hock as back up.
Tuson and HH are not props and it just doesn't work with them.

Just have a feeling Coley will get a £300 fine and a warning rather than a ban.
When Coley was banned after being sent off at Catalans last year he got a two match ban and missed the Salford and Warrington games.
Worrying thing is that for the Wire game Mcguire went with two props, Prescott and Fielden. Hope he doesn't go with two v Castleford.
