| Roberts all day
With game time he will come good.
He will only do so playing at 1 though and on top of that, Sam needs to be back at 6.
Anyway, Roberts for me
Charnley will cone through in time

He signed a 3 yr but arrived a year early which effectively made it 4. Expires 2012.

| I'd be very surprised if Roberts manages to get back to the form he showed before his ankle injury. Of all the injuries in RL the Achilles is among the worst to fall victim to. Paul Newlove was never the same player after he damaged his. He lost much of his lateral movement (sidestep, swerve etc.) - which was problematic because almost all of his attacking game was a product of lateral movement.
I hope it works out for Roberts, but I suspect you may have seen the best of him.

I agree, why we persist to play a winger who consistently doesn't perform is beyond me. Furthermore he barely seems interested.

Nowt to do with his ankle or Achilles. Was a knee injury.

| Think we should try and get rid personally. He was out of position sooo many times tonight it was unbelievable. Looks like he'll never get his form back.

Realistically how many good games as he had on the wing? Not many at all. all of his best game were as a FB.
Get rid of him, Pryce and Gleeson making room on the cap for a top centre.

Sadly that is the issue. I think Robert should be dropped to the reserves to work on his catching as a FB. Then when he finds his feet possibly move him up to the first team.

You said Roberts in your op?
Can't still believe some want Roberts at FB? He's half the player Sam is there as simply he's a good broken field runner and that's it.

| Roberts attitude tonight was terrible but like i've said in the Cats team thread I wouldn't drop him i'd actually give him more responsibility and put him in at fullback. If I were Maguire i'd leave him in no uncertain terms that he's got a run of 5 games or so to make a go of things or else his career here would be under threat.
We can't afford to carry high earning passengers especially a passenger that we've seen can be awesome when he's in form and his attitude is right. He's obviously lacking confidence but that shouldn't mean he doesn't do his work running the ball out of his end of the field. He hardly took a ball in all night and left Sam to try and take any high kicks that came to his wing.
'MUCH' more needed.

Why does Roberts deserve special treatment? He shows no willing, plays poorly ands in your opinion should be awarded with more responsibility as a FB? Why? He doesn't deserve it. Charnley was dropped for far less, at least his attitude is spot on.
Keep Sam at 1 for now, we're clearly missing Deacon. Play people who deserve it.

I think the reason i'd give him a shot at 1 is because I think we need to get Sam back in at 6 and we have few other options in the fullback position. I wouldn't call giving the guy a make or break last chance special treatment because if it doesn't work out and he doesn't show anymore willing i'd drop the guy like a sack of s*it.
I agree we've missed Deacon because as limited as his game seems nowadays he plays a very important if simple role on our side. He keeps the ball moving and lets guys like Sam and Leuluai play their natural games.
Not bagging Finch here and he obviously needs time but he's so far off the pace at the moment it's dangerous. He looks like if he doesn't get himself killed then his crazy short balls will get somebody else in serious trouble.

Your right he doesn't but he's obviously a confidence player and in order 2 get the best from him maybe dropping him won't get the results we need.
Sadly, IMO, he's here for 12+ months yet so we've gotta get our money's worth out of the guy and if that means a run of games then so be it.
Not every player or person reacts 2 the same motivation as the next. Some need tough love like Piggy did 2 get the best out of him others like Roberts seem to need thier confidence building up.

| I hope we can get roberts playing like he did in the first half of last season. The fact is he had another poor game tonight. How long do we give Roberts to get up to speed? Or do we just opt for charnley? IMO we should give roberts a run of games and see if we can get him into some kind of form. Josh charnleys time will come.

| I'd give Roberts a chance at full back but if his performances didn't show any sign of improving then it would be a drop back to the under 20's or out on loan.

This is a thread about who is a better option, Charnley or Roberts? You stated that you thought we may have seen the best out of Roberts as it is difficult to get over an Ankle/Achiles injury. It was explained to you that Roberts hasnt had an Ankle/Achilles injury, it was a Knee injury. You seem to be getting mixed up with Richards??

I am slightly confused. From where I stood, Roberts came into the centre on plenty of occasions to collect the ball and make some much needed metres.

| roberts has come back into the first team and hasn't been given a chance to settle into a position for me. at FB against hudds then on the wing / centres the next.
obviously charnely has had one below standard game but otherwise is showing lots of promise plus he offers a good conversion-kicking element to the team currently without our first two choice kickers in pat and deacon, yet i feel last night was a good option to leave him out. let him have a think and not expect the world and in time - he'll get his chance.
for me roberts is in the team now as he is fit and needs to challenge for a regular spot which madge is giving him a chance to do, but not when he's in and out of two or three positions every week.
plus, last year roberts was THE form player in SL before he got injured yet charnley has played a handfull of SL games and is about 8 years younger with less experience. the comparison at this point in time is a little bizarre but i agree why people will suggest charnley should get his chance after two below par performances from roberts since the hudds game but for me, he has to go for the right mix of experience and youth and at present is mixing it up well.
time is of the essence for both roberts and charnley so lets give them a chance and see what they show us.

| He was exceptionally poor. It's not his attacking prowess that is the key problem but his awful positional sense. He was at fault for at least two of Leeds' tries and was well out of position for one of the 'forward pass' tries.
Put him in at 1 or not at all.
