Not sure how you work that one out. It's physics (I think). Energy required to move a heavier weight is more than to move a lighter one. All other things (training and conditioning) being equal, heavier has to mean slower?
Anyway, it's a matter of opinion: we look slower and bulkier than other teams to me, and the Wakefield and Cas games provided plenty of examples. Bradford and Leeds as opponents were extreme examples of opposites in those regards.

Correct. Some of the fastest men in the world have a stocky build, it is all about the ability to produce power. Power is the ability to produce force quickly and is vital in producing explosive fact movement of the body, especially exelleration.
In order to generate power you need to work on strength, as power is the ability to produce strength over a short period of time. Strength is directly correlated with cross sectional area of muscle (muscle size) so in order to develop power the starting point is to build muscle size, you then convert the muscle size into strength and when that phase is completed work on converting that strength into power, ie producing the strenght quickly.
All a bit basic but it does explain the stocky builds, although each player has to be viewed as a stand alone athlete and there are other considerations to make before simply tyring to produce a team of square players.
I will now certainly change my sig to unofficially the most boaring poster on C & W.

Players tend to bulk up in the off season and loose that weight over the coming season as in season training is aimed at maintaining fitness and strength.

Once moving mass is harder to stop as it need an equal force in the opposite direction.
Anyway, what ever happened to "a team of good big 'uns will always beat a team of good little 'uns"?

Not neccaserily IMO, If your putting on good weight, then its like adding more weight to your car by upgrading the engine. Muscles will be stronger to provide more of a driving force to power players.
You don't start starving yourself in order to get faster do you? So in the same way, adding weight doesn't neccaserily mean your slower.
Theres an advantage in increasing your momentum as well, which means an oppenent will need to provide more force to stop you.
first post as well.
Oh, and brown all the way

There main component to speed is power.
In order to increse power you need to increase strenght, power is the expression of strength quickly.
In order to maximise strength you need to increase cross sectional area of lean muscle mass, hence the need for the aditional size.
