| For me we have to win SL League Leaders Shield and either the Cup or the SL title, preferably the latter.
All 3 would be great but the League and 1 of the big 2 for me is a must.
If he can secure 2 out of 3 he, should he want it, should in my opinion by rewarded with a 2 to 3 year extension.

Couldn't give less of a about the shield. In 5 years time nobody will be talking about us finishing top in 2020.
He has to win one of the two trophies. Nothing less will do.

And another +1 from me
Win one of the big two and he should be offered a deal for 2022. Don’t win one and it’s the exit door without any question.

To win the LLS shows we will have played consistently well over the course of the year. Surely fans want to see this?!
Obviously winning 1 or both of the big 2 is the goal but I would hate to go back to the days of seeing us play poor/dull rugby, qualify for the play offs and win SL. Personally with the squad we have I want us to win the LLS playing a quality brand of entertaining rugby.
Who cares what people will remember in 5 years time? I just want a consistent good season and that is one of the things I believe Lam has set out his stall to achieve.
We in the main achieved that in 2020 and I expect to see improvement next year.
I want to enjoy the full season, not just the last 6 weeks.

Being a traditionalist I actually prefer first past the post as a system, but they aren't the rules and as Saints showed in 2018, it means very little sticking 60 points on sides in the regular season if you can't win the big one.
As someone who hates losing of course I want to win all 3, but I don't see the LLS as an achievement if you then don't win the big one because as I've said before....you can no longer say the best side finishes top because although they will deny it, sides structure their season to come good when it matters.
As for enjoying the season, I haven't sat here since the season ended happy that we won 6 in a row or that we won the shield. I've sat here ed off that we lost the final.

As someone who didn’t expect us to win the final at any stage this season I can cope with the loss.
To be honest last season I enjoyed more than most in recent years.
I’d be vexed off if however we don’t win 1 of the big 2 and the LLS next year looking at the squad we are putting together.

No I totally agree.
We need one of the big ones but I expect improvement next year so LLS is the marker for that.
Win just that again no improvement and I think we will be looking for a change.
Personally I’m a huge fan of what Lam is doing at the club and I think he will deliver us a major trophy as well as the LLS in 21.

He would be the first coach ever to achieve that if so. They all got their first Grand Final win in year 1 or 2.

| Both he and Bateman have come out and said we will win the league next season, therefore I expect absolutely nothing less. Even more so given the squad we have assembled. I’m not happy with “making a final” or winning the LLS. It’s the Super League title or pack your bags.

| Wane, under Lenagan was on a rolling contract. If he won any of the three trophies on offer (not sure if the WCC was included) then he got a one year contract extension. When he did the double in 2013 he got two years. I suspect Lam will be on a similar deal.
However does Lam want to be here for so long? His family are still in Aus so he may only want one or two more years over here.

Are you saying that if he won the League Leaders and Challenge Cup in 2021 you would get rid?

| Obviously he's going to have to win a final but like Jonh says, I am hoping for strong week in week out performances.
I'm more excited about the current squad than I have been in years and the potential story of righting the gf loss sets up the season fantastically.
I'd really like them to take the league by storm a la Cas 2017. If we get to that standard i trust our experience in playoffs will see us over the line in one of the competitions.
I wouldn't worry much about Grimmys stat of coaches winning in their first 2 years. Justin Holbrook basically breaks that too.

Keeps coming back to the same thing for me. Get Burgess fit or replaced with a top prop and we are favourites on all fronts.
If we start the year with a crocked GB I still think we are in with a shout of something.
Come on George, get fit and we are in for a hell of a year!!!!!

How does he? He won his first Grand Final in 2018 - his second year at Saints. I'm not saying Lam won't do it next year, but I would be very worried about extending him into 2022 if he doesn't manage it next year, the stats really start to stack up against him at that point.

Holbrook took over in may 2017, didn't win the grand final til 2019, his second FULL season but his third year.
It is an interesting trend though.

| It has to be one of the big two (Super League or Challenge Cup) as a minimum.
The League Leaders Shield is important too but comes in at a distant third and only really takes on a great significance if it's accompanied by one of or both the other two on offer.

| There was a very similar conversation on Talksport yesterday albeit about football and the premier league. Questions being asked about what success is given Steve Bruce has said that staying up is success, and that the supporters should accept that (or something very similar).
Now we all know that expectations at Wigan are high. I am pretty sure that despite his success Shaun Wane moved on / was moved on because of the style of play. It brought trophies, but there was always grumblings on here and Warriors Fans forum about the style of play.
Do we want to win trophies? Do we want to see stylish attacking rugby week in / week out or do we want both? I personally believe that we are a prop forward away from being very close to winning in style. We certainly have the backs to give us some flair, but i am of the opinion that the props are the unsung heroes. They dont get on top, and its rare to win the games, and certainly not with style. We wont be far off this coming season, and i agree that there needs to be at least one of the 2 major trophies for it to be considered successful. i am personally in the camp of the shield should be worth more than it currently is, as it reflects a season of consistency, but also appreciate thats where the game is at, so its all about winning the GF

Totally agree. I think that 1 extra prop could give us the platform for our backs to really express themselves and play some exciting rugby.
