Looks like the Wigan club no longer has any moral high ground of any significance surrounding anti-doping bans and the like.

It's odd because you all had plenty to say about Barba to Saints and his indiscretions and dealt with the Hock situation as you would expect a professional club to do so - but then again you renewed his contract so perhaps that was the precedent for that. In fact i'm sure there will be other posters dredging up threads whereby the Wigan board will have been slating Hardaker after his last 2 incidents.

There's no doubt Hardaker is a great player, but now as the most loathed player in SL, going to the most loathed club (by many) in SL - its going to be interesting to see what happens.

Anyway, good luck to you, as it'll no doubt be a few months before his next indiscretion and you can all change your tune again.

Time will tell. I agree I think we've signed a time bomb but I'd love to be wrong.

I think Wigan isn't far enough from whatever environment he was in. I hope Wigan have at least stipulated that he had to move to Wigan and not stay in W Yorkshire.

‘We all’ had lots to say about Barba. That’s wrong straight away, my auntie Mary up Beech Hill didn’t give a shiny one that Saints had signed Barba.

FWIW my view is that it’s a gamble we’ve had to take in the end with Tomkins leaving. What move came about first would be interesting to know. We’re signing a top player and we all know that but he’s clearly riddled with issues off the field. We can only hope this has been the kick up the backside he needs.

I also know he needs to lay off the pies on his lunchtime in the minimum wage job he’s doing (according to his interview). He looks a bit more cuddly then the last time I saw him.

Yes we did. We all moaned he got a small ban compared to Hock, Zak and others. At least Zak will be in a Wigan shirt after October. Barba will be in a Cronulla one.

Do players deserve a second chance? Absolutely. We’d have been daft to pass up this opportunity and one of which Warrington/Saints would have definitely looked at too.

Just watched the interview with Brian Carney; he certainly has a high opinion of himself doesn’t he? Perhaps that cockiness and arrogance got him in trouble he first time but we need to nurture that attitude to reflect on the field. He looks hungry to win trophies and medals and the Man of Steel - high aspirations.

I just hope he behaves himself. I look forward to seeing him strut his stuff in a Wigan jersey in 2019.

I'd still much rather have kept Sam if I'm being honest, but for one reason or another that's not possible, so realistically this was the sensible replacement.

Clearly drinking in the last chance saloon at a club of our stature. Hopefully he'll see it as the opportunity it is, in a way that Hock didn't.

I've already been told on the banter page that we're a morally bankrupt club and that the Sts/Barba situation is "different".

As far as I know, Hardaker has not murdered anyone. Do I agree with his actions? No. Hopefully he realises that chances are running out and will repay the club. If I could say something to his face it would be, welcome to the club and I hope that you have a great career here and don't be a pri*k.

Or in Zak's case, a third chance.

Aside from the morality aspect, this guy has a long track record of going missing when you most need him. This isn't a second chance, he's way past that. I'd rather have a committed, less talented player, like Escare and spend the money elsewhere. Has it been confirmed whether he is marquee?

At least and that was my concern but our hand has been forced a little (or at least it was forced) by the Tomkins exit.

He’s a daft lad and that comes across in his interview with Carney. He’s not the brightest but he is a fabulous talent and he knows it. I think his cockiness has got him in to scrapes previously because he just thinks he can do what he wants and get away with it but there’s no place to hide from the drug testers.

We won’t know if he’s learned his lesson for a very long time, if ever so we keep our fingers crossed and hopefully he can do what Barba has done and make people forget the mistakes by playing some top class rugby.

Good signing for Wigan and think he will know its last chance saloon so wouldn’t be surprised if he kept his nose clean for the duration of his contract. However the timing of the announcement is pretty poor just before magic weekend. Imagine there will be a few Cas fans outraged at this mixed with booze and in stadium with Wigan and Leeds fans and other intoxicated fans could spell trouble. For me could have waited until next week to do this.
