| With Joel's imminent departure , would Amos not be a consideration for centre spot next season. He's decent on defence , good on attack and won't be a target for the high bombs! Thoughts ?

My only thought to him on the wing was whether or not the injuries and time out have affected his pace slightly?

Think Sam will stay at 1, I would like to see Amos have a go at centre ,will be a Ryan Atkins Style I think!

Goulding and Marsh are options in backs too?
I think we need a half back or a 9 depending on where Tommy plays?

If charnley's natural position is centre, surely he's worth a run out there?

I'm the same. If Amos can't get fit enough then Ryan King would be my second choice I think. Charnley and King would be pretty raw, and maybe wobbly in defence to start, but they'd have some pace and attacking ability! I think we need to inject more pace into our team; Richards and Carmont were struggling towards the back end of the season, Sam didn't seem his sharpest too. We're pretty slow in the halves so having some real pace in that centre and wing partnership would be pretty useful imo.

| I don't think he'll play for us again.
Never recovered from the knee injury and serioous confidence issue.
Fresh start at a new club for mine.

| Amos Roberts is a very, very naturally talented player. On form (i.e start of 2010) the bloke was unstoppable. Ripping defences to pieces and setting up tries galore. Bags full of ability, he just needs to get over this injury that has hampered him for the last year and a half. He's having ANOTHER operation, which could be make or break for him. If it is a success and he gets a good pre-season behind him? Who knows.
Roberts has the ability to play centre. He has a good pair of hands and will create chances. The setup for Darrell Goulding against Wire last year comes to mind. Amos though did have the tendency to make some poor decision in defence, which would be even more exposed at centre.
It's a mystery to me how we will line up next season. I honestly don't know what Ian Lenagan/Shaun Wane have in mind. The Joel Tomkins departure wont have been foreseen, so it wouldn't surprise me to see someone like Roberts get the centre spot next season.

That is not true. His knee injury was not sorted out properly in the UK. He kept telling the coaching staff it wasn't right apparently but they disagreed. He went to Australia recently where he was proved correct, it was correctly diagnosed and sorted out properly with the correct operation. He is now fit again.

If true (and I am not doubting you by the way) a fully fit Amos Roberts would be an asset to any side in the competition next year.
Until the signings and departures are all confirmed though, i will not be worrying too much about who will play where next year.

| Maybe a possible departure may of been stalled by the possibility of joel leaving and Goulding getting a chance to get himself back in the starting line up?

| I'd love a fully fit Roberts to come back next year and show the sort of form he showed for the first part of 2010. He could be an ideal solution to a problem that we seem to have with us being a player short in the backline (a top class player anyway).
A fit and firing Roberts could play on the right wing and bring experience to help out Charnley who I'd put in at right centre or he could bring an attacking threat from fullback allowing us to get Sam in the halfbacks alongside Finch.
You'd have to think either would be less risky then throwing a kid straight in. We simply have to get guys like Mellor and King some games next year but it's risky to think they could be first choice.

| I really do hope that this has been the problem and that Amos makes a full recovery.... There was clearly more too it than confidence issues when playing for us at a lower level...
In some ways its as if we have 3 new signings for the coming season... Amos, Fielden and Hock... If they all get back to 80% of their potential, i will be happy.
We still need a centre tho...
