| Players who either could have or should have done better.
Could have
Chris Melling.
Outstanding prospect, great kicker, good pace, an organiser and talker from the fullback position. Could have been England fullback. Sadly, two serious knee injuries knocked his confidence and caused him to lose his pace. A real sad loss.
Nigel Wright
A really talented stand off whose career was again blighted by injuries, and never fulfilled his true potential.
Should have
Simon Haughton
One of the most devastating running back row forwards in the modern game. GB International, who should have been a top performer. IMO he started believing his own "golden boy" publicity and gave up on the hard work.
Chris Ashton
Great potential, loads of pace, but an awful attitude on and off the pitch.
However, he is young enough to sort himself out so there may be hope, but I wouldn't bet on it.

Hock as a should have, although he still might. fair to say he hasn't done himself favours as going down as a great of the game.
All the potential in the world and might of blown it. God I hope not though.
Simon haughton has to be there as the greatest waste sadly. That boy was awsome.

Simon Haughton was a fantastic waste
Agree about Melling as well, would have been great without the injuries

Has to be Luke Robinson. His early success (the hatrick at St Helens) went straight to his head and it set his career back at least five years, if not more. Ability yes but his mental strength is weak. Still proves it by dummy spitting at every decision that goes against him.

| Haughton was a big should have, the guy had it all yet for whatever reasons Rugby just wasn't for him.
I think it's in Rads book where he describes Simon as someone who happened to find that he was very good at playing Rugby League yet had no real passion for the game and that was probably his downfall.

Used to like Nigel Wright, would agree with Haughton & Ashton, but would probably throw Hock, Calderwood, Johns & Moran into there with Feka & Fielden from the current crop.

Nigel Wright was so unlucky. He looked such a classy player but just couldn't stay on the field. He had abit of everything really and was a pretty big lad.
As for the others i'd like to think Hock(when he's back) and Feka have the time on their sides to grab their careers by the balls, put past mistakes behind them and move on. They're both hugely talented but have let themselves down(for very different reasons).
Dennis Moran is a player i'd like to have seen in a better Wigan side. He had a nightmare in his time here but if he'd been allowed to play his natural game instead of being asked to organise you never know.
