What's to announce? He's banned till 2011 and has nothing to do with the club till then.

I would have thought most would like to know whether he will play for Wigan again in the future. Also more importantly how he's doing and what the club is doing to help him rehabilitate.

AFAIK the club can't do anything as he can't have ANYTHING to do with them.

Wigan can not make a statement regarding Gareth Hock's future because it's no longer anything to do with them. They can't announce whether he'll re-sign in the future because they don't know what the team and wages situ (or even Hock's personal condition) will be like in two years's time. Likewise, why should they comment on Hock's rehab progamme - wouldn't that be a bit intrusive?

That is not true. The rules state:

"A Person who has been declared Ineligible may not, during the period of Ineligibility, participate in any capacity in a Competition or other activity (other than authorised anti-doping education or rehabilitation programmes) organised, convened or authorised by the RFL or by any body or Club that is a member of, or affiliated to, or licensed by the RFL."

So the club could if it chose to, seek authorisation to organise a rehabilitation program for Hock.

It's therefore a fair question to ask are the club doing so.

I am also pretty sure IL said a statement would be made once the formalities of the process were complete. That is when the time passed that any appeal could be lodged and the ban was confirmed the club would make a statement. It has not.

It's being sweapt under the carpet to try and keep any bad press for the club as minimul as possible imo.

Is that the right thing to do? I'd probably say yes it is but can understand people wanting some sort of statement from the club afterall thats what they promised would be made around the time the news first broke.

They said they would be making comment in due course iirc and we're still waiting.

Like i say if they feel it's best to sweep it under the carpet then fair do's but they left people hanging for the clubs stance on whats happened and haven't given it.

Come on people we have more important things to be worrying about at this time than someone who cant play for two years.

Maybe IL wanted a meeting with Hock and maguire

We have the best reserve team and one of the best academies for the next crop of young players.

Things in general look on the up for next season.

i heard from people inside the club that hock is doing some sort of education programme with teens telling them where he went wrong and where he went right (when he first signed) this was my understanding but i am also surprised there as been no anouncement yet

I don't often agree with Odemwingie, but he's right. There's so much positive stuff going on at Wigan at the moment, why even bother thinking about Gareth Hock for the next 18 months? He can't play for you or anyone else for that matter so why even discuss it?

What was the story when Hock (Charnock) left the club as a kid and returned after a name change asking for another chance?

Old story is old.

I think people are being harsh in criticising the club for this.

It would be entirely professional for the management to assess GH over a reasonable period.

Would you commit to re-employing someone who had his contract suspended/terminated without proof he had learnt the errors of his ways?

Is GH regularly and randomly tested during his absence to ensure he is clean rather than playing the system by going clean prior to a test?
