Police are hunting four men who carried out a sickening attack in Wigan town centre.
Their victim was left with multiple fractures after they launched their attack on him at a bus stop outside Wigan North Western Station.
Police today issued pictures of their prime suspects for the brutal crime which was committed in the early hours of the morning.
It was at about 2.50am on Saturday Night/Sunday Morning (September 12/13) that the 24-year-old victim was with friends in Wallgate when he was approached by a group of four men.
Three of them shouted abuse at him before launching what detectives describe as a "vicious and unprovoked" attack.
He suffered a triple fracture to his right leg, a dislocated right ankle and severe swelling to his head and face.
Anyone with information is asked to call Wigan CID on (0161) 856 5307, or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on (0800) 555111.

Where were the police? Surely at that time they should have been all over Wigan. Probably harrasing a motorist on the outskirts of town would be my guess

Thats the bit i don't get.
At 3am on a Sunday there is normally a huge police presence knocking about and if they're not right on the spot of an incident they'll be there within seconds due to all the cctv camaras.
Lads like that annoy the life out of me. One on one they'd sh*t themselves but are only to willing to hammer somebody 4 or 5 on 1.

So on top of being chicken sh8t scum they aren't too bright giving someone a whacking while cctv is on them.
On another note I hear there is a certain dentist (in the metro paper in London this morning) from Wigan who is in trouble for flashing a leopard skin posing pouch he was wearing to his staff.
Sentencing today..it all goes on round there.

he flattened the first 2 , then the other 6 joined in.
waste of time pressing charges, and its same in this case.......slapped wrist and a free holiday will probably be the sentence......if the police can be bothered looking for em.

It's not the police thats the problem... courts are far too lenient, prisons are easy, and its why they are full. I was on a jury in a case like this... That sadly turned into a murder. The slimey gits had previous, with very light sentences... They should not have been on the streets, and a a decent young man lost his life.. ass-wipes...

i dont think the police are the issue here. There are flaws throughout the system. 6-7 years ago you could lock someone up and the custody sgt would decide to charge. you could get a job bottomed in about an hour. nowadays you have to get past the custody sgt, then take it to an evidence review officer who analyse the evidence. He will then pass it to cps who will make the decision to charge. then you have to get it through court. I know numerous police officers and i have to say they are particularly hard working. problem is on a friday/saturday night you are locking people up left right and centre. It takes on average about 6 hours to process a prisoner. With all the fighting that goes on its easy to see why officers get quickly tied up on busy weekend.
