| A reminder that they have re-timed the academy game at Salford so you can attend both if you wish tomorrow.
Salford v Wigan Under 18s is at The Willows kicking off at 11am.
Wigan v Salford Reserves is at Orrell kicking off at 2pm.
Also Note - Wigan Under 18s play on Thursday Night at Orrell next week. They take on Widnes at 6:30pm.

| Not the best u21 performance but just enough to see off Salford, who I must say didn't play like they were bottom of the league. Wigan struggled for the majority of the game to get a hold on Salford.
Stand-out performers from Wigan for me were Liam Farrell, Sam Gee and Sam Tomkins (who changed the game when he came on in the 2nd half).
Karl Pryce looked lazy, tired, un-enthusiastic and generally like he couldn't be d. Waste of money and cap space IMHO. Get rid ASAP.

Would generally agree, however the abuse he gets from Wigan "fans" is ridiculous. Today he was slated for doing something that a fellow "unknown" player had done immediately before - but because it was him everyone gets on his back.
I know he's a fulltimer and a "Pryce" so treated at a higher standard, but I trust Shaun Wane and Phil Veivers and as long as he wears a Wigan shirt it would be nice for fans to not abuse him - even if you don't want to encourage him.
As for my opinion on Pryce playing wise, its a shame that someone with so much obvious natural talent appears not to have a competitive bone in his body - and not an ounce of adrenalin or passion. Would not get a renewed contract for me (and I don't need to verbally abuse a player but can still have that opinion).

| A couple of observations:
Farrell and Flanagan should be straight replacements for Hock and Lockers next week.
Pryce should go a.s.a.p.
The difference between the two sides today IMO was the introduction of Sam in the 2nd half. Not particularly Sam's individual play but the fact that the whole performance went up a gear and pulled away from Salford.

Completely agree.
I was speaking to someone from inside the club this week who reckons he is one of the most talented players there but he needs a real tough pre-season to get him fully fit.
Will Wigan give him that chance next year?

He is an immense talent - anyone who knows what they are watching can see that. But talent only gets you a certain distance - hard work and enthusiasm for the game get you the rest. Just wish people at the club we're getting tough on him - they may well be and he just doesn't respond.

| Wigan didn't play brilliantly, but did well to grind out the win after playing against some very niggley and persistant holding down defence that was ignored throughout the game by a very poor referee. I'm not one to whinge about a ref but that was one of the worst displays I've seen for a long time.
I thought Liam Farrell was immense. There is hardly a game where he isn't breaking defences and running freely in attack & I can't wait to see him eventually step up into the first team. Shaun Ainscough played ok too, scoring a couple of good tries. His first showed alot of speed and good feet to get into a position to go one on one with the fullback and throw a pearling dummy to score, but one occasion I rememeber a high kick to his corner he was way out of position and struggled with it again. I also think Sam Gee deserves a mention too. He seem strong at acting half back and his distribution was top quality, he's a good scooter too. But the game completely changed when Tomkins came on. Individually, as team player, ball hand in and off the boot the lad is just pure class. He absolutely tore the Salford defence to bits...But it's what you expect when an England international is playing at that level.
I thought some of our speccies were out of order in regards to Karl Pryce. Ok, he does come across lazy sometimes and he might choose wrong options but he's a reserve player. He's in that team to develop because he can't get into the first team, don't heckle him. On the occaision he did do something good he got ironic cheers and it was just embarrassing. The main culprits were the loud, common woman with the one tone of voice with her merry band.

Totally agree about the ref. Not great but not sure he desevered the near lynch mob of oldies at the end either.
We had some Salford coaches sat behind us and for a lot of the game they kept saying in the walkie talkie to get the message out to slow the ruck down, but then complained like mad if we did anything similar.
Liam Farrell was MOM for me with Sam Tomkins not far behind for how he shaped our play when he came on in the 2nd half.

It seems like Wigan bought their own ref to the 18s game and Salford provided the ref for the reserves fixture.
