| We were well beaten tonight, so before anyone tries to score cheap points, I am not in any way blaming the ref for our defeat tonight.
But seriously, wasn't he shocking?
He awarded two dubious tries to Leeds in the first half without going to the video ref, yet he goes to the video ref for our two non-scores in the second. Literally a minute after Hock's try was disallowed for obstruction, he ignores Leeds doing exactly the same thing a minute later.
He missed at least 5 forward passes, three knock ons, Tomkins had his head taken off and that was missed too.
Clearly the above would not have affected the outcome of the match, as we messed up too many times, and Leeds were simply too strong for us, but is a level playing field too much to ask? Really?

Cant believe he deemed that Hock dropped the ball in the first half when it was a clear rip from Kallum Watkins (think it was him).

| There were a few decisions that went against us, there were a few bounces of the ball that went against us.
It happens.
Best team won though, so it's not an issue.

As I said earlier (and I can see I'm going to have to keep repeating this so it sinks in with people) I'm not ON about the result. I'm not even on about ball bounces. I'm on about the standard of refereeing tonight. It was crap.
Crap referreing makes our sport look stupid, so yes, Brett, it is a fu cking issue.

He was absolutely shocking. No excuses it just wasnt our night and Leeds were on fire but Smith just added the icing on top of a crap night. How many times did Hock have the ball stolen in the first half yet Smith gave knock on? Those sort of things make it impossible to get into the game especially against a team like Leeds who dont need any inviting to beat you.

He wasnt that bad, Leeds are normally the dominant team in any SL match and get the rub of the green due to that, Saints did in their prime. Manly were dominant against Leeds and that left the Loiners crying for every decision but that didnt happen either!!..Wigan were poor and lost..

| i think it would make a more convincing argument if someone started a thread ABOUT STANDARDS OF REFEREEING after we won, not after we lost, because to all and sundry it looks like another "lets blame the ref " thread.
we were cr@p........full stop.

| First post so here goes,,,I thought Wigan had a few bad calls, also if you look when Peacock grounded the ball,O*loughlin had his hand under the ball and when you see where Smith was he sent it upstairs to the Video ref,,He was about 3 yards away and bottled it but in the end Leeds were superb especially in the 1st half

| Reffing was poor and inconsistent with parts of the game where things were let slip and then very pedantic reffing.
Not the reason Wigan lost though.

true...leeds were good in the 1st half, i'm not going down the road of sack noble because we need consistency within our great club, once this comes and we stop swapping and changing the team we will return to our great days once more. keep tommy and sam at halves for the next few years to come and hopefully bring more young wigan lads through the ranks whan they are ready
I still think we'll go well this year though, tonight was just a bad day at the office

| Is it just the refs fault or should the touch judges stand up and be counted.
What part do they actually play apart from stating the obvious ie where a ball as left the field and if its gone thru the sticks for a converstion oh and not forgeting having a little trip onto the field of play when theres a little punch up.

| Yes, the ref missed Hock having the ball stripped out, but the same thing happened to Peacock later in the game. Peacock got the benefit of the doubt for his try but the game was over before that. I don't really have any complaints about our disallowed tries - Ainscough looked offside from the kick and lockers just stopped right in front of the Leeds player - if he had kept on running like dummy runners are supposed to then it wouldn't have been an obstruction. The ref wasn't great, but then again, neither were we...

Half of us Saints fans said how bad this guy was when we lost to Hull Kr, and many on here said it was just sour grapes because we had lost. Maybe some will agree now? The guy is too slow for Super league standard and shouldn't be allowed to ref.

Noble simpily needs to say that, an experience tells us we won't see him again this year.
The video ref was no better.

| Up until tonight I always rated Ian Smith as a pretty decent ref, not sure if it was an off night or what but he had a shocker.
That said bad calls and all nobody can have any complaints about the overall result.

I sent a text to a Stains fan during the game and he said exactly that, Smith screwed you against Hull KR. Some very inconsistant refereeing tonight. It's bad enough losing a game - and Wigan didn't deserve to win tonight - but when the ref rubs your nose in it, it just takes the pi$$.
Very frustrating

refs seem to assume Hock as lost the ball every time, he never seems to get the BOTD, penalty against Wigan every time. Opposition players know this and play for it

| I've just watched the first half and will watch the second tomorrow.
Leeds 1st try forward pass from Sinfield.
Leeds third try forward pas from Kirke, watch where he is tackled and watch where the ball bonces before it get's to Donald.
When things are going for you you get these decisions.
Hock loss of the ball once yes, but the other two were ball steals.
All marginal decisions, but ones that went against Wigan.
On another day they will go for us.
No lack of effort tonight. Leeds played well and took their chances, but we certainly didn't get any luck whatsoever.
