| Decent player, but down the pecking order at Wigan with Farrell, Tuson, Hughes, Burke, Crowe etc. Not forgetting that Hansen, Hock and Joel Tomkins are not exactly 30 odd year olds.

Looking forward to seeing Burke play. Someone at the CCQF was telling me how Greg reminds them of Paul Gallen.

Just read on official site that Wigan didn't release him , he wanted to be released and Warrington have to pay a compensation package

| warringtons youth policy is shocking.
Look at their fully fit starting 17 compared to ours:
Sam - Hodgson 1-0
Charnley - Monaghan 2-0
Joel - Bridge 3-0
Carmont - Atkins 3-0
Richards - King 3-0
Finch - Briers 3-0
Deacon - Myler 3-0
Mossop - Morley 4-0
Leuluai - Monaghan 4-0
Lima - Carvell 4-0
Hoffman - Westwood 4-0
Hansen - Anderson 5-0
O'Loughlin - Harrison 5-1
McIlorum - Higham 6-1
Fielden - Wood 6-1
Hock - Solomona 7-1
Prescott - Cooper 8-2
I think I've got that right? That is absolutely shocking and in their squad they have 12 compared to our 23.
For a big club it just isnt good enough. I hope it effects them when their big name stars retire.

| Wire do have quite a few older players especially in terms of their big players but you can tell already they're trying to build for the future. They've signed Chris Hill and Steffan Ratchford who look like sigings they hope can develop and replace guys like Morley and Briers. They also have a very good youth set up now and are investing heavily in that and whilst Moran is at the helm they'll always have the money to compete when it comes to signing the best foreign talent.
As much as we'd all love them to fade away and leave the path clear for us I can see us having some great battle with Wire over the next 5 years +.

good post... i also think that warrington have not had a really good youth setup for a while..but over the last few years it has improved, as the club has got more professional and employed the right sort of people. this current crop of young players is where we could possibly benefit like you have done over the last few seasons...
wigan also have an excellent setup of young players....were looking at some good battles between us over the next 5 years thats for sure.

Good post, your opinions are worth listening too on here, ive notice you post similar fair posts on our board.
Some of your fans are questioning what we produce from our own youth system as if we produce nothing, the answer is pretty straight forward.
Paul Wood
Ben Harrison
Chris Riley
Rhys Williams
Rhys Evans
Matty Blythe
Gareth O'Brien
Mike Cooper
Tyrone McCarthy
Lee Mitchell
Simon Grix (signed from Fax as a youngster but developed by us)
Some are better than others and some have more potential than others but they have all come through our youth system and played at SL level.

| Wigan like to deride Wire's youth setup but you only need a small look in to the History books to understand why Wigan had the premier youth setup.
Wire were almost dead on their backside at Wilderspool is it any wonder we couldn't produce our own and even if we could they would go to a club who could pay more.
You'll see in the next 10 years Wire producing their own on a scale similar to or better than Wigan, these things don't just happen over night.

Indeed a hell of alot of work has gone on in the last 5-6 years.
Peter Farrell searches all over the country for the best talent and the form of our U20s the last few seasons along with players in the England youth squads shows its working, the next step is for them to get to Super League level, so far O'Brien and Rhy Evans look like they can make it but time will tell I have high hopes for 4-5 in that U20s team.
For the pie wanting it to effect us in the future you might get a nice suprise.

The Wire academy set up has improved by 1000% over recent years. They beat Wigan twice last year, but then lost the ones that mattered (the playoff games v Saints and Wigan)
This year they are the only team to have beaten Wigan at U20 level, so a lot of work (and money ) have gone into their youth systems.
I just wish al the other clubs would pay as much attention to their academy systems as I'm sick of seeing forty and fifty point scores at those levels.
Indeed I had a fall out with some Wire fans on their board for "having a go at them" when Wire won by about 70 points in an academy game earlier in the season.
My point was that it did neither side any good, something I have said many times on here when Wigan have done it.

Why do they score for Harrison but we don't for Lockers?
Lockers makes it 6-1 from the starting 13 then the bench is 3-2 to us. 9-3.
Don't forget only we sign overseas players though.

We've got some great talent coming through at Warrington. Peasnell, Laithwaite, Mendieka ect. The players we produce go out on loan to gain Super League Experience. Mitchell is at Harlequins on Loan. Riley only just returned from a Loan Spell at Quins. McCarthy, Evans are on a Dual Registration at Leigh, so were Blythe and Mitchell.

Its a good move for all SL clubs loaning out players to gain experience against decent opposition. The Academy set up does not give some players the right grounding in the game. Some of the early developers become lazy and complacent against U18 and U20 opposition. Maybe link ups with the NL should be encouraged by the RL all parties benefit
