| "It's tempting, but if you are potentially going to injure people by doing it then it's not an option and not the way to go for me. "
He was hinting at our tackling technique from last year at the start of the article, but what that has to do with potential injuries I don't know. I presume he is referring to Lima's tackles from last weekend. He's a good coach but he's just come across as a bit of a whinger.
Are you Wilkin in disguise?

Indeed. We made them look VERY average that day. Kept Stains in their own half and they never looked like scoring. Only two penalties on halfway gave the platform for them to scoot in from 10 metres out. How we hark back to the day when they were tagged 'The Entertainers' running in tries from their own half, can't remember the last one they scored.

| On a side-note, am I the only who noticed on watching the Grand Final back, that when the teams come out before kick off and meet in the tunnel, Potter looks over at Madge as if to say good luck or shake hands and Madge just completely blanks him. This leaves poor Mick looking a bit baffled and putout.
Nice one Madge.

| it beggers belief. Looks like potter wants a frikkin non contact game of rugby league. If it carries on like this madge will probably end up back in aus , where he can coach a team proper and not get penalised for setting extremely high and tough standards, I bet he gets peed off with reading sh** like this.

| What a t0sser. No doubt trying to influence the thoughts of the ref ahead of Sundays game. Obviously nothing from Wigan will be said in regards to these comments, but I'd love to know what's being said between Lenegan and Madge in private.
I hope this spurs our lads on even further. If we can embarrass Potter then even better.

| He preaches about ethics yet the reality is Wigan and to a lesser extent Huddersfield "used these tactics" to some success and it clearly makes defences tougher to break down. Instead of letting clubs raise their standards up to this level the RFL see fit to "introduce new rules/tweak rules" in order to punish the use of this tactic thus dragging down teams standards who are coached by more innovative coaches.
It's a typical case of "Miss, Miss, that boy over there is calling me names, make him stop" from those who over the course of 2010 and now the start of 2011 have publically come out and criticised this. Before any opposition fan jumps onto this, I'm not condoning chicken wing, crispy strips or mini-fillet tackles

| Sour grapes and hard cheese are what's for tea at the Potter household tonight methinks. Slowing the PTB down is bad but Ah Van trying to take Rob Burrow's head off is perfectly ok?
I am confident that as usual we will let our rugby do the talking and leave Potter looking like a fool.
I'm sure Cadoo has Potter on the whingers list anyway but good thinking.

| Wigan slowed down Saints ptb but Saints couldn't slow down Wigan's ptb. Conclusion - Potter out coached!
They've just changed the interpreation of the rules so the likes of Potter & Co. can slope back into their comfort zone.
McGuire and Brown raise the standards so the RFL lower them again.
That should suit Potter, Kear, Hetherington et al!
Best of all, Wigan RL don't respond to their utter rubbish

| It's just mind games in my opinion. All the coaches want to try to get Wigan to play in a different way that makes us much easier to beat. They want to pressure the ref into stopping us doing what we do best. Lima's ban for the chicken wing tackle is the perfect opportunity for other clubs to say that Wigan are doing things that are illegal in the tackle, when the fact of the matter is one player did something illegal in the tackle twice, and he didn't get away with it.

| So Potter didn't watch the game last week, the majority of the frist half were two man tackles and not three man. There were numerous times where I thought Saints were team doing the slowing down.
Lima - nothing to do with slowing down play.
If Potter is playing mind games he needs to use his more, nonsense of the highest quality.

Correct. Gary Hetherington had offered himself as an early contender in pre-season and now Mick 'got owned in the final' Potter has offered himself as a candidate in a spontaneous fatuous outburst.
It promises to be a close contest this season.

Depends what teams do with that quick play the ball. If the PTB is really fast all teams need to do is have a player with good footwork at dummy half and just scoot all the time, which doesn't promote good attacking rugby. Having to rely on playing more expansive because the ruck is slow arguably does promote better attacking rugby.
Of course the worse the team is, the more they struggle to play proper rugby, the more they have to rely on scooting and quick play the balls and in their case the ruck has to be fast in order for them to play any sort of rugby, let alone 'exciting' rugby.
It's just my opinion of course, but 'fast' doesn't necessarily mean better (as my girlfriend keeps reminding me). Rugby for me is about using creativity, about trying to beat the men in front of you with skill, not just with pace because they are trying to get back into the defensive line and you've managed to pick up the ball and run with it.
