Wigan Warriors today announce the 19-man squad for this week’s Betfred Super League game against Wakefield Trinity.
The Warriors face Trinity at the Mobile Rocket Stadium, Wakefield on Thursday, 7:45pm kick-off.

Shaun Wane makes two changes to his squad with Dan Sarginson having overcome a hamstring problem and Gabe Hamlin recalled.

Ryan Sutton is still undergoing assessment for a knee injury picked up in last weekend’s game against Warrington with Joel Tomkins currently stood down from playing duties.

I would give Isa a rest and stand down Williams.

At least there are three blokes coming in who you can be sure will give everything in Sarge, Hamlin and Navarette.

why has Sarginson not been playing? form or injury?

I'd be surprised if Sam plays, can't see how he could have anything but you know what on his mind.
I'd give him the week off, let things calm down a bit.

I fear we are now very light indeed in the pack. Given this added to all the turmoil I can't wait for Thursday!

You reckon all three will be in the 17, then?

No. We need to be down to the bones before Hamlin gets in, which rather begs the obvious question why did we sign him?

I wonder if Hamlin was 'thrust upon' Wane by IL and Rads, with Wane never wanting him?

I’d give Woods a run in the side now. I think we need to see what somebody can do who may be available to us in the long term rather then throwing Tomkins in at scrum half. I’m sure we’ll continue with Powell at scrum half but I really don’t think we should.

"I'm the most stubborn man in the world. (Owner and chairman) Ian Lenagan and (executive director) Kris Radlinski have always been loyal to me and I pick my own players. If I want a player, they say 'great' and they go and get them for me.

Hamlin isn’t at the standard we need yet. He had a good debut but was disappointing in the Saints game and hasn’t lit up the place in training by all accounts. That said, I’d like to see more of him. He’s only young and it’ll be interesting to see how he develops. Let’s not forget that although he has real potential, he came from Souths having not played 1st team rugby and there’s a reason for that. Hope he smashes it if he gets picked.

Can’t comment on training but he was excellent against HKR on Easter Monday and from memory hasplayed about 15 mins in games away at Catalans and Widnes since. He hasn’t played against Saints first team yet.

Totally agree NK and I’ve liked what I’ve seen to be honest. The comments about training came from a source within the club that would be unfair to disclose but one I’d trust implicitly. You’re right though it wasn’t Saints it was Catalan away where he failed to impress, hence not much game time.

I really hope he gets a run and commands a regular place in the 17.

Hamlin had an awesome game on his debut and Wane then says thats not the way he should be playing. Wouldnt blame him for feeling a little demoralised after that.

Id back him to play well on Thursday.

Added further weight to the theory that SW doesn’t want forwards to make yards after contract but would rather they hit the deck quickly to get a speedy play the ball doesn’t it? I thought it was really refreshing to see Hamlin run the way he did but SW knows more about coaching a RL team than I do!

Yes he did indeed have a very good debut against a Kr side utterly inept that afternoon how much stock can really give to that game as he hasn’t done much at all in his (few)games since?

It must be tough feeding off scraps in fairness. I’m not sure Ben Barba would’ve lit up superleague with two spells of 10/15 mins in the past two months.

Wanes comments on him after Easter Monday painted a picture I felt and it was pretty clear at that point that he wouldn’t play much of a part in our season unless injuries/suspensions kicked in (as they have done this week but I still don’t think he’ll play).

My son was speaking to a player he knows and that particular player couldn't understand why Hamlin isn't getting any game time!!


Unsurprisingly people have their own views and nothing in this world is agreed by everyone.

Our pack is far too little as it is and to put Hamlin in if you have Bateman, Farrell and Isa in the backrow would be bordering on the ludicrous.
Having said that after SWs comments after the HKR then maybe Hamlin has been demoralised and he has stopped performing in training and to be honest who could blame him after such vocal and specific comments by SW.
I believe that part of the issues in the club are related to certain players can get away with anything without comment but others (mainly the young guns) get publicly named for errors which causes unsurprisingly some unrest.
Personally I don't understand why we recruited Hamlin if are not going to give him some 1st team game time.

If ever there was a time for a team to show what it's made of and come out fighting, it's this one.

But another heartless show like last weekend, and it's difficult to see past a home win.

No Flower or Tautai this week, could be another tough night!!

What makes you think they wont play?

Wane has said they’ve minor injuries in his press conference and will miss out along with Sutton and Joel. We’ve got Sarginson, Navarette, Hamlin and Field coming in so presumably will line up-
