| Plenty didnt want him near the match after the 19 was announced.
I was in a massive minority for saying he needed to be on the bench.
Wane seemed to share my views and gave him a bench spot, which allowed MM to have a rest then come back and help settle the game.
Logan did nothing wrong , except 1 knock-on, (and who didnt knock on?) and was solid.
This thread allows the doubters to come on here and say.."we were wrong, Sean Wane and WPM got it right"

I don't think either of you did. We are a better team with MM on the pitch. That may be a bit unfair on Logan given his experience because why would he be up to MM's standard but the fact he isn't just means when he comes on usually about 10 mins before halftime and then plays after halftime for however long we are a worse team. It's also a bit predictable!
In previous seasons when MM has played the full 80 he's looked knackered by this time of year. He's not done that this year since Wane has used Logan as described. So today given MM is not knackered I'd have been tempted to play MM the full 80. I said this over on Mike's message board before the final. I reckon he'd have easily been up to it and Logan's use to the side would be to give MM a rest against the poorer teams so he could do the full 80 in big games. Sounds harsh I suppose but MM is streets ahead.

Its not just that, I do see signs of an average player in there, but he's a Tomkins and don't you think thats got him in the team ahead of other players?

| Powell would have done the same sort of job. We just needed anyone there who could at least do the basics right to allow McIlorum to have a rest.

| listen im typing as a neutral... logan Tomkins doesn't offer much go forward ..he very rarely scoots think he defence is poor I wouldn't say hes in the 10 ten hookers in superleague .... on the plus side hes still young .... good win yesterday solid team performance ... it wouldn't have matter wet or dry conditions ... you would have still won that game ever it was played on mars........

| It seems that I too am in the minority again.
Logan tackles more and tackle harder the sam Powell, who in my opinion may make a mid table half back but would need to learn to take on a defence to make a proper impact. Logan does not run often enough from dummy half granted, but I would ave him on the bench for MM any day and expect him to come on each year to be indispensable.
Defence wins games and logan is bloody good in defence, earns his spot for me every week.

| Everyone needs a back up hooker so this argument about him not being as good as MM seems to be pointless. I don't think anyone would argue that he is. What he does offer is decent cover when MM is tired. I also think the comments re just because his name is tomkins he gets a gig. If that were true play his dad!
I think he has really come on this year, still quite a bit of improvement to be made but if there's a cheaper backup hooker out there I've yet to see him.

| Logan only gets so much negativity because he's a tomkins. People seem to think its how he's getting a game, but for the most part people wouldn't be so negative if he wasn't a tomkins. Powell has shown no more than him, but he doesn't get as much stick.
He's only 21 and no worse than mcilorum was when he was 21. Intact mcilorum was getting stick still in 2011 around the time of our last challenge cup victory.

| He did ok and he's that type of player. He's no stand out, he doesn't particularly do anything wrong but his physical attributes mean he's limited.
I think we need more from the bench but that's for another day.

| LT is an average back up hooker at best fact ! There are better prospects playing outside Super League who would inject more to your side in both defence and attack defiantly , IMO Logan is far from being a SL player and is in your side for one reason and one reason only !!

Agree.
He did nothing special yesterday but he did not do much wrong either. He is in the same position now as MM was in 2010 season. Where he has to step up and show he can be a constantly good at his role. I remember the GF 2010 when they read the team and MM started instead of Riddell i thought that Madge had lost it. But he put Cunningham in his pocket. Logan Tomkins has go to now improve week on week or if he plays as he has this season he is not good enough overall.

| Mcilorum is a great player who is ferocious in defence and organises us very well. What I'd be looking for Logan is to offer us something different from the bench. Maybe an injection of pace or a different threat in regards to sniping around the ruck area.
I thought Heremaia did well for Hull yesterday in that regard. I'd love to see Mcilorum control the match for a period and then us inject some pace and something different to the game.

| People comparing Logan to McIlorum early days are wrong, I remember McIlorum showing class in his first few appearances for Wigan. He is and always has been a great hooker. I have seen nothing from Logan to say that he can make it at Wigan. Hopefully the rumours of him going to NZ with Sam are true, if not, Leigh or at best Widnes beckons for him IMO. I'd love to be proved wrong because he seems like a great lad and popular with team mates but for me he just isn't good enough for Wigan. We would be a much better team if we had a better hooker to come on when McIlorum goes off.

Mciloruns decision making in 2010/11 was awful and wed lose all attacking. Cracking player now, crunches people in defence regularly, but he definitely improved considerably, and its possible logan will too given time.

| I didn't think he had a good game The only time I noticed him was when he knocked on, then gave away a penalty straight after, and when he missed a tackle, chased back, and missed another tackle. Not good considering he didn't play for long. Hampshire would be the better option off the bench IMO

| Lets just say I was counting down the minutes for MM to get back onto the pitch and being mighty relieved we hadn't conceded any points over that period.

| It takes years for a player to reach top of their game in the pivot roles of 1,6,7,9 & 13. It took ages for Mic Mac to do it and I do think he learned a lot off Piggy.
I was glad when we brought in experienced halves when Finch and Tommy left.
We were told Green and Smith weren't in the same class as F & T but last year's halves would never, ever have come up with the quality kicking game at Wembley that Smith and Green provided. IMO it was our better kicking game that won us the Cup!
Logan is only young yet and may well develop into an excellent 9. Trouble is when that young, if he cops a bad injury and is out for a considerable period of time the coach will have to try different players and combinations.
Time yet for Logan but he does have to progress each season.
