| Ticket sales for Fridays game seem worryingly slow for a Wigan v Wire season opener!!
Is it the fact we've sold low ST sales, fan apathy due to lack of signings and general prospects this season, or just general poor take up on Wigan v Wire tickets - due to the fact that many think its wire's game to lose by a bag full?
OK so we're only on Monday but just checking the website shows only 12,996 sold in the wigan ends of a possible 18,700, so over 5.5k tickets to sell.
Even if wire bring their usual 3.5k (which may also fall down massively if wigan numbers are anything to go by), we're still only looking at 16.5k ticket sales for our second biggest home game of the season - A far cry from our last regular home game and selling wigan tickets in the saints end because we'd sold all home allocations!!
This is usually a fixture that easily gets 20k and as the opener we should have really been looking to test capacity IMO, yet 20k would look like a brilliant gate with sales as they are 4 days out.
What are people's thoughts? Why are sales so low, and is this a sign of a big dip in gates this season to coinside with people's dip in expectation- or a general dip as more become disengaged by a season where things only matter for the final 10%?!

| Well I'll be getting my two tomorrow. Was thinking if there would be many left, but looks like we are ok in that regard.

| I thought the big 1 2 offer a few years ago was a good idea. Maybe it's a bit early in the season for £10 a ticket. I've seen people mention on our board about the price rise since last year. It's a tough one as both sets of fair weather fans could decide on the night or stay in and watch it on tv. I love the atmosphere for a wire wigan game be it home or away and can't wait for the game.

| It's low because people have now realised league positions mean little so I guess everyone bar die hard fans don't really see the point. It's all started to turn on Leeds winning 2 titles from 5th but you can't blame them. The two sides on Friday must shoulder a lot of the blame IMO. Both have been the best sides in the regular rounds over the last 2 years and have both been a couple of points short of knocking Leeds out of the play offs and had chances to finish them but didn't take them.
There's a real feeling around in the game at the minute that games like these are 'plastic battles' IMO. Are these two sides really the no 1 and 2 sides in the league as positions in the past few seasons would suggest? Quite cleary they aren't and Leeds are and I have zero confidence in anybody stopping Leeds claiming another win at Old Trafford this year regardless of their league position.
Teams are afraid to beat them come play off time.

| Well I don't think I agree with you with respect to the Leeds comment, though there is no doubting their pedigree when it comes to the important games of the season.
I do agree with your general comment though. Games mean zip at this part of the season.
Go to watch a spectacle, why not? Just don't pretend it is actually important.
Sad situation but true.

Maybe in the reverse fixture but not this one.
We feel a lot safer when your penned into 1 stand safely without the possibility of being allowed to mix with real fans
There must be some other reason?

Real fans? Now then, why are your season ticket sales down? Why have you not sold as many tickets as the club or fans thought you would? Is it anything to do with your club taking your money and not investing it back into the squad or because your chances of winning anything this year are far more remote than in the previous three or four years?
It's easy to be a keyboard warrior but I just hope on Friday the sky cameras show the plastic fans who stay till the bitter end and not the Real fans who will be seen doing the Wigan walk. Grow up. It's people who spout rubbish on forums regarding feeling safer as fans penned in etc that actually incite trouble!

| I'm not going coz my brother can't afford it and I can't afford for us both (hence no ST either) hopefully he will make sure he's not skint come the saints game.
I think there is still an amount of apathy and Sally wasn't far off I got a bottle of vodka thrown at my car by one wire fan and abuse hurled by another so I was slightly dubious about whether it was worth the risk anyway.
Then I realised they were stupid teenage idiots that when I turned round ran off but still that's not what you should have to deal with at RL.

| I think Wigan fans might be thinking they have a weaker team than last year (which they do), that even though it was a friendly without your top 2 players, you looked well beaten in Benny's testimonial, that the league means bugger all.
They could be skint, they have no money after Christmas, it could be too cold, they think Wire fans are scum and might start trouble, they just can't be bothered, not true fans, saving money for the big away day at Huddersfield or even the Catalan trip in August

| I'd be surprised if the crowd was a low one compared to the corresponding fixture last season.
It's our first home game FFS and the first chance most fans will have to see our new half back combination.
So despite no one seriously [iexpecting [/ia win (which I think is certainly the majority view) I thunk a lot of people will still have a [ihope[/i we might sneak it. Typical fan mentality of you like!
If people are staying away as they see the result as a formality that would be quite a worry for the club and a wake up call that they can't expect fans with high expectations to support an average squad of players.
Maybe the Hock saga which was well publicised beyond the Internet has left some people who don't visit places like this fed up.
I still think sales will pick up as the week goes on. This is a game I would expect those who have not bought season tickets who normally do to turn up for.

Sorry, but anyone who can't turn out for Wigan v Wire in the second game of the season is pathetic, and no excuses cut it (unless they're ill).
