Rather this then him talk about Union.

Wigan are in safe hands whatever happens in the future. Our academy is servicing us well and will continue to do so.

I'm sure he'd be brilliant over there - he's a class act, no question.

I genuinely hope he goes.

He's too good for Super League. Will have served us well for half of his career and more than paid the club back for the time and investment they put into him.

He'd improve immeasurably out there playing high intensity games week in week out.

As has said above as long as he stays in League i say good luck to him, If he stays relatively fit and healthy the the money on offer from RU will be immense and hard to beat from SL or the NRL

I don't think it's anything realistic Wigan fans wouldn't expect. Part of me wants him to go over and tear the NRL up. A lot of aussies and other SL team's fans seem to think he can't be classed as world class until he has done that. As others have said I would much rather he ended up in the NRL than be wasted playing yawnion. In an ideal world he'd stay at Wigan for all of his career but with our league being able to pay so much less than others there is always going to be a risk of losing them. Also with the overall standard of the NRL being so much higher than SL there will be a desire for the best players in England to test themselves against Marshall, Slater, Inglis, Thurston, Smith etc on a weekly basis.

He isn't the first and he won't be the last. The RFL have got a real job on their hands or there could well be an exodus of most of the top quality players from SL.

I'm sure at some point they'll want him to become a Queenslander/NSW'er too.

Never a truer word spoken, there immediate job is to ensure the game remains profitable and attracts big money sponsorship otherwise the game is going to continue losing clubs like Bradford to admin or liquidatio

As long as it's the NRL and not union i'll be happy for him, would prefer SL to get their house in order though and him stay in England.

This is the first time I've seen anything about him preferring the NRL over Union.
I'd rather he stay but if he does go at least he won't be lost to the game and will still be available for England.

Hopefully a nice big transfer fee will be paid as he will still have 2 years on his contract, he will go at some stage so better to get something for him than going for free in 2016

I would prefer more words than this.

As a fan of Tomkins as a player I'd be happy to see him go over to the NRL and try to make a name for himself there. If he has ambitions to become one of the best players in the world then really he has to go there and go to the next level and I'm pretty sure he'll do that.

We want to keep the best players in our game so I'd be glad if he didn't switch codes. It would be such a waste of his talents in a sport where running with the ball is quite restricted.

Hopefully if he does leave in two years time then we'll have a ready made replacement in Matty Russell, Jack Murphy, Lewis Tierney or Ryan Hampshire.

There's a real possibility he will be the best player in the history of English RL so not to test himself over there would be madness. I will be gutted to see him leave Wigan but I will wish him all the best because he deserves the opportunity. Plus if the fans and the club are gracious in letting him go he will probably come back to us having spent 2-3 years in the NRL (remember after 3 years he would still only be 28!) and he would tear up SL even more I imagine. Loyalty is often rewarded and our loyalty to him and his wishes will pay dividends when he comes back. I doubt he will stay more than 1 contract over there lets just hope he doesn't sign about 5 years! Ha

Plus he loves this club so I doubt he will leave with us not having adequate cover for him.

Will an NRL team pay £600,000+ to buy out his contract? they have an abundance of quality backs in the NRL and never seem to spend money on transfers so I wouldn't say him leaving to the NRL would be as straight forward as it seems.

What about a two year player exchange deal with NZ Warriors? We are assuming that Sam will enjoy the life downunder, let's not forget that he is a home bird.
