It's obviously down to money. We have a lot of salary cap coming free, but we have other holes to fill too.

If a team wants to make Finch their marquee signing then I think we should let them. Yes he's been fantastic this year, but most halfbacks would look half decent behind this pack. We're pummeling opposing teams!

Dont think he will stay at Wigan, but I dont think he will be as effective at another club either. It would be a bad move for him to go unless all he is bothered about is money. At Wigan he would get decent money, chance to win silverware and is already settled. If he wants to give all that up for abit more money then so be it.

Finch is gone. He is following Lima to Souths. The NRL are increasing the salary cap next season as at the moment cannot compete with the Super 12 in Rugby Union. Mal Maninga was inviting Super League players to 'Come and join us in the NRL' a couple of months ago in the League Express. With the Challenge Cup winners medal already and another possible Wembley and Grand Final win, what else does he need to prove out of Super League. The increased contract in the NRL and going back home is too good to turn down.

Even if the NRL doesn't get a bg jump in cap, movements in exchange rates combined with closing the tax 'loopholes' that have caused trobule for a number of clubs have made SL far less attractive anyway. The NRL is already competing with Super 12 on wages (no high profile moves for RL players have been made for some time), as the ARU is skint - not because the NRL cap has moved.

He never looks like a bloke in a rush to leave when he comes over to the fans at the end of games but maybe he's just enjoying the here and now before he does leave.

I think we all can take a leaf out of that book. There's no point worrying about next year when we look so good this. We should just enjoy it and leave the big decisions for 2013 to Lenagan and Wane. They don't get much wrong.

in the interview last i'm sure he referred to Wane as The Coach in a not so happy tone, that's what it sounded like to me anyways

I have a feeling the length of the contract offer will have a major influence on where he goes.

I remember the last Brett who played 6 was exactly the same never in a rush, but boy what a player he was, this guy is the same, when we lost Tuscon and Hock yesterday he was immense organising the team, moaning at the ref and just genrally being a pain in the to slow the game down, very clever player and one we will struggle to replace with someone of equal quality, unless sam is going to 6 with Matty Russell at FB !

I still think Finch will stay.
We are losing some well paid players and spare cash will be available after contract upgrades.
It maybe that he wants some kind of coaching role at the club after or during his next contract. Something along the lines of Deacs when he first signed.
IL said he'd started contract negotiations with Finch and Waney has stated he'd be a very happy man if Finch stayed.
I don't think either man would go public with statements like that if it wasn't a done deal or very close.
Players like to be well paid, of course, they also like to win things.
At present there is no better club to be at that is likely to win things.

I'm resigned to Finch to going back to Oz for one last big payday. His career has followed a pretty similar path. He's something of a journeyman, never spending more than 2-3 years at one club. I don't think being "settled" anywhere is that big of a concern to him

He is 100% leaving I'm afraid. Such a shame because him and Leuluai have been fantastic together this season

Confirmed in the League Express this morning that he looks likely to be folllowing Lima to Souths. Am sure i wrote that last night, one thing about the League Express is its never wrong, been buying it for years. Also says we are looking at Lee Gaskell to replace Finch.

Simply not good enough at present Gaskell it woud take 2/3 years before he's any where near the standard currently set by Tommy and Finch, incredibly disappointing losing such a great player I'd imagine Maguire has deleted Wane's phone number!

Do you really think this was only decided this last couple of weeks ago? Madge knows Shaun Wane signed at least 3 prop forwards at the start of the season. Flower and Dudson are going to be class players next season and Madge knows that. As far as Finch is concerned he would only have seen out his contract at Wigan. He must think after winning the cup last season and hopefully after what he achieves at the end of the season that he has nowt else to prove in Super League.

It's happened before, remember us losing Dennis Betts, Dean Bell and Andy Platt in 1995 to John Monie's brand new team Auckland Warriors??
