It is unbelievable that they can sell-out that stadium for a game like this. We could only dream of doing something similar.

It would be interesting to properly see their ticket receipts and how much they charged, how many freebies etc...

As for Sam, he's free to go and watch whatever he likes, I turned that game on and watched about 10 penalties in 3 minutes, I switched over.

My thoughts entirely, those seats can't have been RFU freebies/hospitality.

I believe the tickets were charged at £10 and £5 for kids. What would be really interesting is how much/if any profit was made on the day. I remember reading somewhere that Saracens actually lost money on one of their Wembley ventures.

Quins dont make significantly on the game but have 80000 "Quins fans" and a large data base to call upon for future events.

The Quins RU marketing machine is very good unlike its summer "tenant" rugby team

This sort of thread is going to happen every single time Sam goes to watch Joel, its quite pathetic.

Well he should have a bit more respect for the people on RLFANS most of whom can't spell his name and not go to watch his brother live. He should hate rugby union and everything to do with it just like we do and he should walk round in one of those "100% league 0% union" T-shirts 24/7 with SAM TOMPKINS IS RL on the back.

The sad thing is that if a RL weekly round fixture were held at COMS or OT and tickets were priced at £5 and £10 we'd struggle to get 20,000 to go.

Even if the RU clubs concerned did make a loss, the pulling power of their game compared to us should be a source of embarassment to everyone connected with RL, particularly its management, which has so badly failed the game over the years and continues to do so.

I don't think its particularly embarrassing that RL fans know a quality product when they see one rather than being a set of gullible sheep who will go and watch any old tripe as long as it involves a day out at Twickers.

The problem is, though, that they don't seem to know a quality product when they see one.

With the exception of a few clubs, attendances in SL are very poor. It's even worse in the Cup and in the play-offs (certainly in the early stages).

But overall I blame the RFL. They've never marketed their game as well as the RU, who somehow manage to make a pile of poop look like the most exciting sports spectacle on Earth.

I think blaming the RFL is naive. At a club level, clubs do the best they can with their limited resources and there have been some fine examples of good work by certain clubs in the marketing department. The RFL can't do anything about the fact the international game has no credibility, which is why support for Union has ballooned. If it wasn't for England, Quins would still be playing in front of poor crowds. There was an interesting article in the Evening Standard recently about how Quins have gone from playing in front of terrible crowds in a dump of a stadium to 80000 at Twickers in only a few years. This couldn't happen in League and it is absolutely nothing to do with the RFL.
