If Shaun Wane is named head coach for next season, what will he bring to Wigan?

Passion and pride, loyalty, a very long apprenticeship working under a few good coaches and 2 yrs under arguably the best coach we've had since Monie. A sound knowledge of the skills and abilities of the younger lads and I'd say the future is in good hands!

Thoughts please?

I have always said I thought he was very frustrated under Noble and this all came out when he was interviewed just after getting the assistants job when Madge was signed up. He was not happy with the level of professionalism at the club and clearly felt it wasn't being coached in the way it was when he was player under the like of Monie.

That bodes well for what kind of commitment he will expect form the players.

Unfortunately I don't think we can get away from the negatives going round at the moment on the player front in that his position is being undermined before he starts by not only losing Hoffman and the other players we know about but Joel as well and yet being lumbered with Harris as assistant and Thomas as a player (plus some young Crusader players). If the rumours are all true of course but there aren't any others!

He picked Harris!!!!!!

Where has that come from? The rumour I have seen is he picked Paul Scuthorpe and Harris is part of the "Welsh connection" deal.

From the fact Assistant Coaches were interviewed and Harris was picked based on that.

Scully was NEVER leaving St Helens. Fact.

That does not mean it was Wane who picked Harris.

Who do you think conducted the interviews?

IL and SW. That still does not mean SW wanted Harris. There is a poster over on Mike's forum that has said IL offered the job to Sculthorpe (Wane's choice) but on poor wages so PS rejected the offer and Wane did not want Harris. FWIW there was also a rumour on there that IL offered Wane less than Madge but Wane held out to get the same deal (more than one reliable poster on there mentioned that).

I dont have a clue about the finances.

But from what I was told, Wane picked Harris.

Sculthorpe was never getting the job, I dont ever state things for certain, but on this, im certain.

Passion and high standards. But I think that as so many of the young lads grew up and cane through the system with him they'll run through brick walls for him.

There are a lot of negatives going round at the moment, on all fronts!

I hope the big fella brings thick skin because he will need it. The sh*t is already very close to the fan and we arent even out of October yet

Faith in some of the youngsters. I think he already has his stamp on the club, but from a point of view of influencing things further I fully expect some of the youngsters to be asked to step up to the mark.

Agree 100% with that. Add in loyalty and the fact he won't be buggering off to Australia half way through his contract.

As fans we do need to give him a chance though as he doesn't seem to be getting dealt the best hand with players that have left and not been replaced so would hate everyone getting on his back if we lose a few games. As long as we finish 5th we should be sorted!

id trust the judgement of IFL, madge and wane who all had a say in bringing harris to the club! it might also be worth noting that in their interviews harris blew sculthorpe apart with his knowledge of rugby league! id hardly say were being "lumbered" with him!

I'm sorry, but Harris has always struck me as little more than a mouthy gob-sh|te.

I detested him as a player, for his constant questioning/abuse of referees (even if he did get away with it, just because he used the word "sir" a lot).

Do you really want this man as the next-but-one head coach of Wigan?

He reminds me of nobody so much as Ian Millward.
You remember - The guy who constantly whines, waves his arms, gives the bird to Wigan fans, oh, yeah, and of course LOSES 145-0 in 2 consecutive matchs and takes us to the brink of relegation.

I have seen nothing from Harris to impress me and it would take a LOT to change that opinion.

If this happens, I hope to f**k that IL has seen some genuine spark of coaching talent, as we will be incredibly inexperienced in the coaching roles with SW and IH at the helm.

He's worked his way up through the coaching ranks. He clearly knows how to coach and how to get players to play for him, that's a very good start. On top of that? Well there's only one way to find out!

I think Wane will be a good coach, maybe a great one. He must've learnt a lot from Madge and he was probably doing most of it once it was announced Madge was leaving. But probably not in his first year - so no moaning if we don't do the double next year (or treble? if you count hubcap). As for Harris, he'll do a few years then leave to be head coach somewhere else. Maybe Deacs will then step into Assistant? Who knows.

Commitment and top 4 will do me next year.

What will Wane bring?

Success and glory, a new chapter in the history of the Wigan club.



He will then move to RU.

Wane will bring passion and pride to the club but passion and pride doesn't win you games, honestly was 2 years under madge enough to give Wane everything he needs to coach the Wigan team?

I'm delighted that Wane got the job...he is wigan through and through! Something that IL has really tried to return to the club. Nothing can replace the passion of a true wigan born and bred coach. He's had years of working with some great coaches and two years is a long time to work closely with Madge.
I think the negativity should stop....we should get behind the whole team and coaching team and just hope we don't lose Joel to union!!!!

he will bring an aggressive defense (see hull and leeds last year)
he will also bring with him a never say die attitude and the lads will leave the pitch knowing they gave their all for wigan.

I'm very happy with the appointments, some people are quick to judge before we've even started pre-season

I expect him to continue the league's only 100% coaching record.

Having kept a clean sheet in 50% of his games in charge is also a proud record.

Can you qualify that statement? I mean, were you actually there at the stage where Harris 'blew him away'? Otherwise it's a bit of a silly thing to come out with ain't it?
