No doubt he ll be going back sooner or later but this is a bit miss leading and not Official is it ,

There's been a lot of rumour on here over the past few weeks. However this is a quality newspaper and which is unlikely to publish this sort of story without foundation...the last sentence in this article is more than a bit worrying...'he was being courted by several NRL clubs'..suggests he's been contacted by a few clubs over there and has plumped for Souths.

Interesting how there's no mention of Tony Smith being persued by anyone over there...wonder why that might be?

On second thoughts having watched an England side coached by Mr Smith fail dismally in the world cup not too long ago..think I might just have the answer

For me I would be disappointed if he went before his contract was up but not heartbreaking. We still have Waney!! TBH he came over only ever having been and assistant - he has proven hi9mself and now looking to be getting offers from one of the biggest clubs in NRL. Would you say no??

I have heard also that Wayne Rooney is going to be signed for head of marketing and public relations at the Halliwell Jones, not sure if there is anything in it though. They need a tough one over there.

It's not official is it though. To be honest I'd be pretty happy to see Shaun Wane get his chance at the big job at the end of the season should Madge end up leaving. He's served a long enough apprenticeship at the club and he appears to be well liked by the players, which you'd expect from the Wigan lads seeing as he's coached most of them from youth level

No its not official but it won't do anything to pour water on growing rumours surrounding the club at the moment.

Aspects of this remind me of when Stuart Raper was being linked with Cronulla, before we knew it he was on a plane back to Australia following a home defeat by Widnes (i think).

Personally i would love to see Shaun Wane be given a chance but it must be for the right reasons and not simply down to his chummy relationship with the players - well thats how it appears from what people regularly say about him.

If performances don't imporve over the next few weeks then who knows what might happen - it would not suprise me to see Madge on his way home far sooner than we think.

Seem to remember being pilloried fairly recently for having the temerity to suggest he'd be off before the end of his contract provided he got an offer.

Wigan/SL or Sydney/NRL. Hmmm, toughie.

A highly rated young coach like MM was never going to be in SL longer than 2 seasons. You get stale and fall behind over here compared to working day in day out in the NRL.

The end of the month is the latest.

Maybe im being naive but Maguire has always shown a passion for the club, and talked about building a legacy, i wouldn't have thought he'd consider quitting after 16 months in charge.

Can't see him leaving before the end of this season, no chance IMO.

Why ... when the latest, according to Souths fans, is that their current coach will only retire when his contract expires in five months' time.

I think we need to accept that Maguire will go at the end of the year. But expecting him to leave mid-season, when Souths don't need him yet and he'd lose out massively in terms of earnings, is a bit less likely.
