It is reported in todays Daily Express that Wigan could turn to Tony Clubb of Harlequens if Martin Gleeson Leaves Wigan.

This possibility was mentioned for the first time on this message board last night, more in jest, I suspect, than anything else. That shows where they get their 'scoops' from.

Not sure what sort of message signing a centre would say to Marsh or Charnley, especially if it's a young centre.

No, one of the reasons for the salary cap is to help clubs keep the players they have developed and stop the top clubs cherry picking.

This issue arises every time there's even talk of signing a new player.

What impact will it have on the youngsters?

I can only assume that folk have bought too much into the anti-Wigan propaganda that still floods message boards like TotalRL, wherein Wigan are the only team who ever make big signings and that this is why they are "always selling their young stars".

Bringing through youth is one of the keys to success, but you can't afford to ignore the availability of top talent (not that I include Clubb in that), if you can afford it.

If Wigan see some real quality who they can fit under the cap, they'd be wrong not to enquire purely on the basis that it might irritate a kid who hasn't yet, and may never, make the grade.

I can't see us bringing in Clubb as a top quality centre, mainly because he is not top quality. Would love a world class centre.

The fact that the older generation of supporters will never be completely happy until 1-17 as Wigan born and bred.

Look at the starting team now, its full on local lads and will imported 3 top NRL players last season, this shows that who be bring in doesnt effect the youngsters.

If your good enough, you will get a shot in this Wigan team, no matter what age.

Which is hopefully the ideas the players get into their heads.

For instance, as good as Hoffman is, the like of Tuson know that if he has 2 or 3 bad games, or steps out of line in terms of discipline then he'll get his chance.

We already have a cockney centre better than this lad.

Stick with the youngters. If Marsh is given the right coaching (which he undoubtley will under MaGuire/Wane) he will become a fine centre for you. The other option is to slot Joel Tomkins in there as you allready have a wealth of back rowers and maybe invest the money on another first class Prop to complement Coley, Lima, Fielden. Added to which if Fielden is out for the length of time (4 months) as quoted on here a Prop maybe the perfect signing for Wigan.

Anyone who knowns anything about Wigan and its history on signing players will know its how good a player you are that gets you a game here. Not where you come from, what the colour of your skin is or anything else. It's one of the things that has always given me pride in the club.

I also support the club trained/federation trained rules but ensuring clubs have enough locally produced players is not mutually exclusive to bringing in top players when the clubs finds one available. I'd be very disapppointed if we ever stopped being able to sign top class Aussies as well.

If Wigan decide more expeience is required in the centres if a certain player leaves the club I will be quite happy if they can find a suitable player. Personally I think its too early for either of the young players mentioned to take over a centre spot full time.

I hope to god this isnt true. Waste of time, money and effort imo. If we are going to spend money lets make sure its quality that is worth splashing out for.

I have never rated him and initially my thought would be not a chance,.......but.......I just wonder what player he could become in our system.

I do not for one second think the Quins backroom is anywhere near as good as ours. He has without doubt the physical gifts to make an excellent centre. He is big and strong, I have questions about his pace, but I think the potential is there in the right system to improve on this.

He has all the gifts to be a very good player much in the same way Karl Pryce has, hopefully though in our system he would have a better chance of reaching them.

Maybe we needed to get rid of someone to allow Hock back in June?

Far easier to sack someone for xxx reason than just offer a player a 6 month deal (which he'd probably reject anyway).

No way! Use the money to sign a good 9 and upgrade players contracts plus bring hock back.

Or a good 6/7 (whichever Finch doesn't play) and move Tommy to 9 with McIlorum.
