| Don't get me wrong, 4 games in and I couldn't be happier.
BUT
1. I can't help but think that we are currently experiencing 'new coach syndrome'. Players looking to prove themselves to the new coach etc. This will wear off over time, so after 10 games we will perhaps see how we are going to run
2. Look at the teams we have played! 3 very easy home games against 3 teams which never properly turned up. I thought KR would come and really test us, but they never even got started. Yes, we beat Warrington but not even we can deny that for parts of that game we were second best, and towards the end of the first half there were some classic Noble tactics creeping in: lying on, daft pens etc. but hey I was just as happy and proud with the efforts of the boys!!
3. The defence is brilliant, the sort of thing a Wigan side has been lacking for years. For once I feel like we can actually defend our line. But no matter how much fitness we have done, defence of that intensity will take its toll. Easter could be bad for us. Leeds and Saints will take a lot out of us and there are easier games to have after that than Wakey. Winning 2/3 there will be a good effort.
Lets not forget that most people on here would have been happy with a 3rd / 4th placed finish at the ned of the year. If we have a slump, lets not turn the board into a depressed one!
Although, we are top of the league!! Fantastic stuff!!!!

| On the flip side we've tonked three 'easy' teams at home and won away against a 'hard' team.

| It's not every year we win our first 4 and are clearly 1st with a great points difference. Let's revel in it, while we have the chance.

Exactly - what next, if we win the cup we're not allowed to celebrate because we've not won it 8 times in a row? jeez no-one is getting carried away we're just celebrating the fact that we are playing good, exciting rugby which is what everyone has wanted for the past decade!

I agree. Theres nothing wrong with getting carried away thb at the moment when we are unbeaten so far and top of the league. We are playing some attractive rugby and giving all the fans something to be happy about. Whether or not it is "new coach syndrome" we are playing in a way we have not seen for years, and on that basis we should be happy and confident that that is the new style of the coach for the time being rather than some temporary blip.
IMO there are too many good signs of change for it to just be down to playing well for the sake of impressing a new coach. The attitude, approach and fitness have all changed dramatically from last season. Nathan Brown showed last season with Huddersfield what a difference a change of style can make in a relatively short time. Fingers crossed Maguire does the same for us.

| The OP is spot on.
Wigan need to maintain this level of performance for the rest of the season, which they may find difficult once the harder games start kicking in.

| We fans can get carried away all we like, its the players who should keep their feet on the ground and not get carried away with a few wins
If we lose at bradford, i think some on here will come crashing down to earth again

| The start to the season has been a pleasure to watch and we deserve to enjoy it after all these lean years but I fully agree. We shouldn't get carried away because bar the Warrington fixture we've had 3 favourable home games against sides not in the best of form. I think we've played very well don't get me wrong but we have far bigger tests to come and once the shine of the new coach has worn off it'll be interesting to see how we progress.
I'm pretty sure we'll not do a Hull from last year and sink like a stone but there will be some tricky patches around the corner. It's how we come back from those that will tell us what we're made of and what we can achieve this season.

| This year the real difference is that we look like we want to play as a team and dont want to be beaten at any cost.
We all know we are going to get beaten this season as i dont think there are many sides that have gone unbeaten all season. But as Phil Clarke said all teams go through a dip in form during a season and its the one that can recover from this in the shortest time that come out on top. Hopefully with MM and SW in charge when we do hit the dip they can get us through it very quickly.

| I agree with us not getting carried away, but when you look at the Hull KR game, it's obvious to me that Wigan never LET them get started.
Wigan also look a lot fitter, and that went a long way towards getting the win at Warrington. Warrington faded a bit, not just through the loss of Briers, but because the game wore them down. Wigan survived that a bit better, IMO, and whereas Warrington looked knackered at the end, Wigan didn't particularly.

| Why not get carried away? We're in a good run of form at the beginning of a season for the first time in nearly 10 years. We're fans, it's our job to get excited about our team doing well. Nobody here is demanding silverware, we're just enjoying winning comfortably and going into games swimming in confidence. I'd much rather be getting excited about us being 100%, best attack & best defense than be moaning because we where beaten at home by HKR & Catalans.

I am not getting carried away but I completely disagree with the above. That suggests MM and Wane have not had any influence other than not being Noble and Veivers and that is clearly not the case.
The way the team is playing the game is markedly different and it's not simply down to trying to impress the coach. The tactics are clearly different. The defence is organised differently and our attack is doing stuff like running from deep with a staggered line. Things we never saw under Noble and it's like a different team.
I am certainly not getting carried away and Bradford could be a banana skin but I think the way the team is playing is down to the coaching and pre-season preparation done by the new coaching team. Not simply the new coach syndrome.

I totally endorse this.
There are fundamental differences between the Wigan we see now and the Wigan of last season - and those are only the ones we can see on the pitch.
The stories I hear about team camaraderie etc are also massively different.
Yes, we could get beaten this weekend, but we are much stronger in all departments than we were the last time Bradford faced us. For the first time in ages, I'm not worried about what they're going to do - I'm much more interested in our own plans and preparation. If we get those right, we're more than capable of winning this once very tricky fixture. It's in our hands.

| We've set a very good standard. Over the last couple of seasons our consistancy has been very patchy.
We'd play average one week, poor the next, then good, then average again, poor the next week, good the week after that etc etc
This year we have had four out of four very good performances. Should our form drop in one or two successive games then there will be pressure to get it right on track because we have already set our standards during these first four weeks. It's going to be hard and there will be spells when we're not performing with as much high intesity as we're doing now, but that's understandable. Let's hope Madge has control of things and know what to do should performances dip and let's hope the supporters can stay patient and ride through any poor patches that realistically are going happen.

| One game at a time, if we keep winning I will be chuffed, but like you say 10 gamnes in will be a far better indicator of how we will go.
Right now though I am not just happy with results, I am more happy with the way we have played which is why I think we will be top3.

It's the quality of preformence which is giving me confidence we won't do what Hull did last year and drop like a stone. I can't remember all of their first 5 games but picking out the opening game of the year against us at the KC stadium they weren't overly impressive and it really was a game we should have taken.
I believe our squad has enough quality and depth to see this start through to at least a 4th place finish.

I agree with this.
Things are clearly very different this year in every sense, and different in this case is a very positive thing.
Clearly a change was needed and MM has taken us on and done what was needed along with Wane & Bitcon.
The club is on the up, and that needs to be the focus now.
