Just read a report re NRL All Stars v Indigenous All Stars. During the game there came into play what they termed Experimental Double Try Play. Unless this is a wind up I gathered that after a try the scoring side has an option to refuse the goal kick and go for a second try by restarting play 15 metres out with just one tackle available for the mto score a try. Read the report see what you think. It wasn't very explanatory.

its something they said a while back they were trialing. Stupid IMHO. The tryscoring team get the ball back anyway.

There's a similar rule in American Football. Definitely interesting. I'd like to see it introduced actually.

No thanks, the kick at goal is steeped in the history of rugby. The only reason you put the ball over the line was to get a 'try' at kicking a goal, which got you points.

Its a terrible idea, the two point conversion works in the NFL, but i would hate to see the rule introduced here

In a tight game it could make it very exciting, to have an 8 point score rather than 6 for a team that is behind would be good. But you know it'll just be a kick to the corner and everyone hopes they get it. That could just make it boring.

Personally I hate it when we try to be gimmicky. The rules are fine as they are.

The kick at goal will always be used even if the rule does get changed, but in a close game at the end it would be great IMO!

would be a good play if say for example you score a try right in the corner and your goal kicker is having a mare!! why not have a bash at another try if you feel you wont kick the goal,

saying this i can't see it happening any time soon , seeing as the new rules regarding lifting one leg etc we will soon be reduced to touch and pass

true...but you dont get another 6 if you touchdown again on 1 play, you get 2 ...its called a 2 point conversion, as opposed to 1 pt for the kick.

rarely used but when a coach calls it its usually worked out mathematically.
watch carefully..they always go for the 2 pointer when 5 behind with not long left.
normal kick = still 4 behind needing a touchdown
2 pointer = 3 behind and still touchdown to win , or field goal for extra time
miss the 2 pointer and its still touchdown to win as per 1 point kick.

thats when coaches employ it.

I dont like the idea TBH, much prefer the kick at goal.

you do know dont you that the kick is optional?

if you have a minute left and score to go 2 points behind, you can decline to kick and get the ball back quicker.
thats enough rule on kicking imo.

Unlikely to see that it would, it's just a chance to get a try off one tackle as opposed to often a certainty of 2 points. Just like in the NFL the 1 point option is the one most likely to be taken for the much higher probability of scoring it

All that will happen is that the attacking team will tap the ball take a drive and hand the ball over in the opposition 10.

Better than a kick off and you don't waste energy chasing the ball

i know that one of RLs strength is its innovation and the fact that its not afraid to make changes, but ....

given the origins of the game, and the derivation of the term try itself, this would a step too far.

Why not introduce 1 point for tackling players in the in goal similar to a safety in A.football

Rather you could take the two and kickoff from halfway or choose to have the opponents to drop out from under the sticks and start play normally from there. Shows whether you want the points or to stack on the pressure, and would make big comebacks more exciting.

The one play without a kick seemed pretty easy to defend against and with a kick it would just be boring. I'm not a fan of the one play.

i can remember a game at galpharm last year involving the giants but cant remember who they were playing maybe catalan and the giants were losing and they had scored a try and they went to line up an goal instead they drop kicked it and was waved away i think by the touches as you can only do it from a penalty.

Tackled in your own in goal area or knocking the ball out dead instead of a drop goal give the attacking side an option.

1. Give the attacking side 1 point and ball is given to defending side on the 20. So gain a point but lose possession

2. No point and restart with a drop goal as usual

Good idea in theory but don't think it'd work in practice. It would mean that at the end of a tight game, defenders would be scared to go into their own in goal area for a kick for fear of giving away a point and potentially losing their team the game.
