The kicking game against Wigan worked again. Roberts has done no better than Ainscough at diffusing bombs. Maybe if they both had more help and the team was coached to protect them they might be more successful.

Roberts was a poor signing, still no one believes me. He has done well for a few weeks but we should of signed a prop instead. We did not need a winger.

If Ainscough gets dropped for being defensively poor then so should Roberts after the last 2 weeks

Agreed, Prop was needed but we signed a winger. Should have kept Colbon at least he was solid. On the brightside only 3 and a bit more years of Roberts

Well ainscough wouldnt have played anyway today because he had an operation on his wrist during the week.

From day one Roberts has looked unitreseted in a Wigan shirt, we'll have to give him time and hope he shines such as pat did, but deep down I can't see him being anything spectaclar, hope I'll be proved wrong in time.

The stick Roberts gets is undeserved in my opinion.

He hasn't had a great start and he has made a couple of errors but to say he looks uninterested isn't how I see it; if anything, I think he's trying too hard.

Any positive think he does is over looked and any error, regardless of how minor is picked up on.

We have Roberts for a few more season yet; how about we give him a chance?

Fact is, he's still getting b*gger all supply out on his wing, and it's pretty hard for any outside back to impress when the pack are getting steam rollered.

He sure is a player low on confidence, we lost Mathers with the same, Fielden has had none all season. For me one of Nobbys big let down is that he does not seem able to change a players confidence or develop a player. I don't think I have ever heard a Wigan player say that nobby has developed "their" game and made "them "a better player. You only have to read text tonight to see what Wire players are saying about Smith. The fans will get on players backs if they make the same mistakes continuously.

Dallas did alreet as did Carney and they literally recieved no service all career.

The fact is, Roberts doesn't have the skill and flare - so he comes in trying to drive the ball up and he drops the bloody thing.

It's basic school boy errors.

His criticism is well deserved IMO. He's done nothing and seems to have no passion. Ainscough on the other hand is already a far better player.

He has shown no pace, no skill, no strength, no composure, no defense and your trying to convince me to give him a chance.

I have given him many chances and only now have I decided he is poo, I hope he improves like any player at Wigan but he was a daft signing regardless of him turning out good or not.

You honestly tell me we would not of been better this season with a prop and a HB instead of Riddell and roberts.

I posted this topic, not to get at Roberts but to defend Ainscough, who was immediately dropped after scoring 4 tries at Wakefied, because he missed a crossfield kick and conceded a try.
Noble should make sure players are coached to not leave their team-mate isolated.

I posted a similar thread in early July and got shot down in flames.

Of course I can't. I've said since the signing of Roberts that it was a mistake given we had already extended Phelps' contract, and I wish Noble had seen Leuluai's ability at hooker before we'd signed Riddell.

That said, what's done is done, and Roberts needs support rather than constant criticism.

Ainscough is not playing in SL due to something to do with salary cap, and his earnings getting raised if he plays so many games, hence taking us over the limit. Read it somewhere and one or two others have read the same thing.

Fact is, if we had no other options the tools on here wouldn't be slagging of Roberts so much, full of tools this site like

TBH Roberts has not done enough to earn the shirt. I'd rather have kept Calders, who IMO did nothing wrong. Tackled like a demon, came inside looking for work, and did his best considering the shiite service from his centre.

Talk about kneejerk reaction. I agree that I too was watching and thinking that perhaps Ainscough isn't as bad as we made out, but I don't see why we're all slating Roberts, he's had two bad games on the run but he was playing very well before that.

IFL has posted on the board that this is not the case when it was raised earlier in the year.

Don't really understand the stick Roberts is getting to be fair, he dropped a couple yesterday, but in truth for the King tries you have to credit Briers for putting across such quality kicks the plays were as good as indefensable.


More of a concern to me was the fact that we simply allow the on rushing attack to walk right through us offering little or no obstacle or protection to our wingers.

Were he not injured it would be interesting though to see if Ainscough would get a game as he does deserve another shot after Roberts performances these last 2 weeks.
