A good club-man, but not what we need if we want to kick on.

His two problems are he is a quota player and on (allegedly) a large contract. We have to get our overseas quota down to 5 by 2011 which means not renewing some overseas player's contracts when they expire.
Him getting a deal may depend on the number and quality of IL's overseas signings and their cost in relation to the SC.
With the form of Hock & Lockers improving by the game and our abundance of back rowers then it does appear Phil Bailey may be in his last season with us.
A good solid player but perhaps not one that will improve the team next year in a way that will take us forward.

Mossop , Tomkins , Hansen all look better prospects , Bailey has been solid and reliable - not what we want from a well paid aussie

For next year i'd be looking at us starting with-

11-Hock
12-J Tomkins
13-O'Loughlin

with a sub place for-

Mossop/Flanagan/Farrell

without a massive improvment in his own game i wouldn't be able to find a place for Hansen either. He offers us hard working defence but little to nothing in attack and hasn't moved his game on one bit in the however many years he's been in the first team.

Six figure wage surely.

Yeah with Mossop looking good I don't see the point of keeping him with him being a quota player.

No deal, for reasons already mentioned, plus the backrow doesn't have enough yards in it when him, Hansen and O'Loughlin are the back 3, which puts extra pressure on the forwards, which are already pretty poor.

If he can talk his brother into coming over next season, i would offer Phil a deal also.

His brother is the most avaerage of average players EVER.

he obviously loves wigan and playing in SL and id be sad to see him leave as hes one of the few players we currently have that gives 100% EVERY game but hes on quota so.........

i can see him getting a contract if he is willing to take a wage cut.

A big cut... which he won't take. Can think of two or three other SL clubs who would be straight in for him.

It wouldn't surprise me if he got a new deal. Yes he is quota but Phelps and Smith are off contract at the end of this season as well so the club could re-sign Bailey and still meet the limit of five.

He is one of those players who if fit Noble will always select so if the price was right I could see the club giving him a deal.

IMO with all the back row talent we supposedly have coming up through the ranks I think it would be a mistake if it did as it is time to show some more faith in the clubs own developed players.

He is a good player IMO who is underrated for the work he does and he is a smart player as well but if you look at the bigger picture he ought to be on the way out to let the younger players progress.

I think we should keep him, wanting to play here and doing the work he does, keep him.

I would personally let him go, he will not be missed.

Defensively he would.

If we didn't replace his experience or leadeship there is 2 more reasons why he would be missed

I'm not advocating a mass clearance but if we stick with the same players - and coach (?) - won't we get the same performance, i.e unsatisfacory?
