Oh that's simple, Hock was made out to be the devil regardless of his pretty reasonable record previous to the event and the RFL are nothing but inconsistant.

Hock grabbed a ref after being sent off for dissent. It was intimidating and he went out of his way to do it.

Bailey may have been wrong to push Silverwood but it was a result of totally incompetent refereeing. Silverwood was hopelessly out of position at that play the ball.
Without excusing Bailey, I can understand his frustration at Silverwood positioning himself between the markers and a Warrington play so close to the try line. FWIW I don't think it would have stopped Warrington scoring but it certainly can't have helped.

Diifferent situations. Different motive. Different outcomes.

If that excuse carried weight, players would be getting off every week, especially ours.

Not for pushing the ref they wouldn't. Even given their general level of incompetence it's rare that refs get so badly in the way of play.

It's because of Baileys previous good record.

Lets not forget that he is TMFMISL. Every other clubs fans would have been screaming for a hanging had it been a Wigan player. Instead, its the refs fault. ***rolls eyes***

i officiate at amateure level and as much as i despise bailey, silverwood should get ban for being useless. Silverwood was in the way end of and i would have accepted being pushed out the way for that. It was a nothing.

The Hock incident was completely different and is not a comparison.

Hock didn't grab a ref after being sent off, I don't know where you got the idea that the sending off came first. Hock thought a try had been scored and disputed the decision and when the ref turned away he placed his hand on the refs shoulder and tugged it back. It wasn't intimidating and he didn't go out of the way to do. It was a stupid reaction and he got a deserved sending off and 5 match ban for it.

Bailey knew where the ref was and clearly pushed him as he was going past. In terms of the contact, Bailey's was worse, but given that Silverwood wasn't in a good position a 3 match ban is fair.

He also swore at the ref. Hock's was worse than Bailey's.

However I have seen a few instances where a play touches/grabs the ref to get attention and not a single action is taken.

Not quite right, Hock was sent off for manhandling the ref after the opposition scored a try.

I thought Bailey's actions were worth a ban. Had he run into Silverwood without seeing him, that would be a genuine accident. As it is he deliberately pushed him, clearly being able to see it was the ref and not another player. Agreed it was only a gentle shove, but IMO you simply can't do it.

Anyone else remember Kris Radlinski shoving the ref out of the way when he was in the way of him taking a bomb? It was Wakefield away, the game after we won the cup final in '02. Nothing happened then. I've not seen this incident but it sounds pretty similar. Is it?

i dont think the fact that Bailey sought out Silverwood after the try was scored , and waved his arms about and was generally being intimidating helped.
i think hes lucky to get off so lightly given his past record

tbf to Bailey if I was in his shoes I'd have shoved Silverwood as well. I think it was made worse by his impression of Paul Wellens when Wire scored.

Taking the rose tinted specs off, I think Hocks was worse as it wasn't during play and it was after Smith had spoken to him. But I thought a 5 match ban was a bit harsh.

Bailey deserved it, infact he deserves a lot more but we'll settle for a 3 game ban for now.

Yes, saw that. Think Ganson said something like - "it's all recorded mate" as in what was said to him would have been picked up by his mic.

That makes a special kind of sense when you realise it's Ryan Bailey who was done for this. You don't at all come across as paranoid and delusional.

Not right at all. I was there and remember it clearly. Hock scored a try, the ref disallowed it and turned away from Hock. Hock lightly grabbed him on the shoulder as one would grab a friend to get attention. Hock got a deserved 5 games in my opinion. We don't want rugby players acting like football.

Not sure of why Hock grabbed the ref but it was as you recall just a grab to get the refs attention; nothing like an assault or sustained rant at the ref
