The lads grafted hard to try and come back from 12-0 down but lost 16-10 in the end.

my nephews had his first game with the reserves today .

Hull seemed to be a bigger, stronger team and Wigan did well to keep in touch with them.

Didnt Thackray and Whiting play?

Thatckray is 13st odd and Whiting is about 11st odd.



Although Thackray does run it in hard.

Was asking if they played thats all...not how big they are.

Should be in 1st team but Agars lost the plot at the minute.

No they didn't but surely they would be with the reserves. This was the academy i.e. under 18's.

This is academy we saw here i.e the Under 18s. The reserve grade played away at Hull.

Yeah the Hull props 8 and 10 were well bigger than ours. Which I shall mention in my report I'm just about to write.

How did the reserves do?

Don't forget to mention how much ball we dropped and how good of a tackler our scrum half (Sam Powell) was.

Didn't he tackle well?
His passing needs some work but his work in defence was brilliant. A little more composure and that game could have been won.

Won 30-22. No scoring details yet.

A good effort by the academy today against a team that looked bigger and more powerful than most of our lads did.

I think the main difference between the two was that when Hull got the ball they seemed to know what to do with it more with set moves etc.

Going off the team sheet the players that stood out a bit for me were.

6 - Declan McLoughlin, showed some nice footwork and good vision.
8 - Adam Davies, a couple of good runs that took the Hull players some effort to stop him.
9 - Liam Thompson, organised well and looked dangerous with ball in hand.
11 - Matthew Sarsfield, got through a lot of work in defence and made a lot of tackles. His go forward was the only thing that let him down imo.

Well done to the reserves as well for keeping the winning start going

You couldn't criticise the effort today but the lack their of composure let them down, particularly in the second half, when, with the wind at their backs Wigan had Hull "on the ropes" but failed to finish them off.

Hull were certainly physically much bigger, and Wigan were very poor defensively around the play the ball. However, it was very young Wigan team that will certainly get better as the season goes on. It's always difficult early in the season to make judgments. Last year Wigan got overrun by a bigger Castleford side, but came good as the season progressed to make it to the academy Grand Final.

Yeah I agree with all of that. I don't get to Orrell often with Saturdays being a pain for me but I was there for that Cas game so maybe it's me. Saints last years champions got humbled at home by Warrington today as well to prove the point.
