Quote ="FearTheVee"There are some very odd comments about Field on redvee - reminds me of the days when Offiah was "only good because he's fast and all he does is score tries". Errrr, well yes.
He's a very, very dangerous player with the ball. I do think he lacks a bit ball playing wise (seems to throw quite a few panic/bad passes on the end of breaks) but that's probably just a natural desire to push the play sometimes. His prescence is enough to scare teams and create space for others.
Will be very interesting to see how he goes later in the season when the plays are more well known, the games are more of an arm wrestle and tracks aren't as quick - but maybe that's just the optimist in me.'"
I suppose it's a compliment in a way. As you say, it's a criticism levelled mainly at dangerous players. It's strange that it only seems to be Saints fans who suffer this particular malaise. Fans of other clubs seem to be more than happy to acknowledge how he's been a joy to watch at times. As usual I exclude yourself etc from this observation but posters like Saddened et al have made themselves look like spoiled schoolchildren at times.
The 'bad pass' comments seem to stem from one game. I can't remember him being any worse than anyone else in this regard otherwise. You'd think Johnny Lomax never threw a bad pass to lose Saints a challenge cup semi final to hear some people talk
Check out the interplay for the French/Field try from the Salford game for an example of great passing interplay. Not sure there's another pairing in Superleague who could better that.
