Quote ="CobraCraig"Lawrence Dallaglio was on talksport earlier saying that although Edwards is a Rugby League legend his heart is in Union and he was very shocked when it was announced he was coming Wigan. He was saying he thinks he might take either the number 1 or 2 job for the RFU after the World Cup.
I was never sold on Edwards with him being out of the game for so long and I think no matter who’s fault this whole debacle is both parties need to move on as Edwards position with IL in untenable.
I will add that even though IL is coping the most stick at the moment I have never from the start thought Edwards heart has been in this move and he’s using the perfect moment when his stock is at a high to bring up the fact the contract hasn’t been signed.'"
The more I think about this the more I believe the club have been naive and foolish and IL and KR have inflicted irreperable damage on themselves by their belief that everything was OK. Indeed when he came out with his "if it happens " comment a few weeks ago they should have been down to Cardiff with a contract in their hot little hands ready for him to sign, who knows maybe they did and he refused to sign it as he was already negotiating with other interested parties. However I have no doubt that the club and SE had a gentlemans verbal agreement in place which for the self proclaimed man of integrity I never break a contract Mr Edwards, was seemingly happy to go along with at the time. If he wanted something on paper then surely he should have insisted on this from the outset.
He attended the pre season game at the Skolars, I believe he has been to Orrell, he has had discussions with Lam about the direction of the team and possible recruitment if what you read and hear is true, so why should the club not think that he is being sincere in what he has publicly stated that he wants to coach Wigan.
Now that the reality of SE leaving Union has sunk in, the people running the game have obviously been sounding him out and he has revealed that no contract has been signed although the man has a verbal agreement in place. So someone from the dark side whether that is Wasps, England, or some Welsh club have stroked his massive ego and wafted a wad under Mr. Integritys nose, and all of a sudden SE goes to press crying that he is no longer wanted at Wigan or words to that effect, effectively starting a bidding war between Wigan and RU for his services.
The club has been badly damaged by this with both parties being culpable, my own personal opinion is that a line is drawn under this ASAP, and SE stays in union well away from Wigan. As the caretaker coach part of the original plan is now defunct, Lammy should be thanked for his services and a new full time coach appointed, because unless we have something to distract ourselves from this such as a winning team playing good rugby, this is going to fester for a long while yet which neither the club, players or fans need.
