As for attack, I think it's no coincidence that since Iestyn Harris and Paul Deacon left that we've gotten so poor in attack and it goes to show how truly clueless he is and how much he relied on those two.

It's a strange one - our position in the table is completely at odds with our performance on the field. As much as I enjoyed watching us beat Saints the other week, it was a poor game - it was like watching a competition between two teams to drop the ball more than their opposition. Last night was a different sort of fiasco where our inadequate attack was gifted opportunity after opportunity by a poorly-disciplined Widnes side.

It seems to me that any excitement or spectacle from the Wigan team this year come from watching us to commit a suicidal number of errors, fall behind on the scoreboard and then hope that an individual effort can save our blushes in the dying moments. Of course it didn't happen last night despite all the opportunities provided by Widnes. And that's our season in a nutshell, play badly for 2/3rds of the game and try to pull something out of the bag at the death.

I'm sure the casual viewer on Sky love it, but it's not good enough for the majority of us who pay to watch their team play. I want the spectacle of watching RL to come from the standard of rugby on display, as it did in the CC final last weekend, not from watching my team dig themselves in a hole with a half-d display and play catch-up for the last 15 minutes.

Maybe the two points you raise are linked regarding the decision not to go for two and the throwing of an hissy fit when asked a question if he thought his job was on the line.

He may have been told before the match that a win was expected if he wanted to keep his job, then when it came to making the decision not to go for two he was so obsessed with going for the win, the thought that taking the two to guarantee a top four finish was the furthest thing in his mind.

This being the case then you take every point on offer as it comes. It's not as if Widnes were sparkling that 2nd half. After the Farrell try with 20odd minutes left we were given numerous chances to kick for two. I was shouting for it to get us back level pegging early on knowing we didn't want to be chasing the game with 5-10 to go (panic rugby). Had we gone into the last five minutes at 8-8 I doubt Widnes would have held us out whether it be a try, penalty goal or drop goal.

The decisions not to take the two definitely came from upstairs, I have a mate in the West stand and could see the "roll-on" signal being made.

It was, our season in a game, not felt as bad coming away from a game in a long time, what I can't understand is we had 2 weeks to get ready for this game, it was on the cards that Hull would struggle at Saints and I fully expect Wire to struggle at Cats today, golden opportunity for us to put pressure on them, we just were not at the races and the first rule of play off rugby is take any points on offer, how many kickable penalties did we turn down 4 or 5, very strange, something is not right, as a season ticket holder feel very short changed this season, suspect a lot will not renew next season.
For us to be still in with a shout sums up Super League now, it is dying on it's feet, these Thursday night games are absolute rubbish, and don't get me going about officials, but he wasn't the reason we lost on Thursday, ah well got my Wire ticket we live in hope.
