I kind of hope that next year is a complete failure as then we would have momentum to sack the RFL and start a new league.
The RFL of course would claim it a success no matter what happens......

Things need to change and a growing realisation of this is spreading throughout Super League.

Sudden death match, 8/8/8 or whatever. The question that needs to be asked is why the change when we were told the move to play off system and GF was going to solve all the problems?

For those who don't remember, when we went for the playoff system the RFL were insistent it was going to increase the intensity and increase the standard of the game because that is what it delivered in Oz. Apparently the structure of the competition was the key and that was the one we needed.

Instead we now have people saying that despite we have had a virtually identical system to Oz because it didn't deliver as promised this is because the structure is in fact wrong!

So now we try a different structure at the behest of the people who got it wrong last time.

One day the penny will drop that fiddling with structures isn't the way to solve the problems the game faces. When the RFL realise their role is to get as much money into the game as possible they will have woken up. As it is they persist in tinkering and hope it will be alright on the night.

The RFL's track record of getting funding into the sport is pretty good all things considered. Certainly it's superior to the track records of most of the clubs.

Which brings us back to the central point: we have all these so-called successful businessmen whinging and carping about the RFL and yet very few of them have demonstrated any real commercial success in the running of their Rugby League clubs. Why on earth would we let them or their ideas loose on the governing body?
