I was expecting a far closer contest going to Leeds this weekend as I really though they would be up for it, but after watching their performance I think they have major problems. It still won't be easy in the Challenge cup semi as there's nothing more dangerous than a cornered rat, but Warrington are the only team I think Wigan have to fear if we play our A game this season. They're on a slow burn so far but have plenty left in reserve and are probably the only team who can compete with us if we are on form.
The key word is form - No team can play at 100% every week and its important to peak at the right times. Things are looking good at the moment and we are rightly favourites for all competitions but there will be plenty more twists and turns before the middle of October. Out of all the contenders reckon Wane and Harris will be keeping the closest eye on Warrington and rightly so.
Once the Catalans games is out of the way I think we'll see a few players rested each week up until the cup semi and from next week on and it wouldn't surprise me if we only see the first choice seventeen put out for key games between then and the end of the season.
If we are no longer paying Amos then I guess he doesn't count.
I don't understand the argument that Fielden isn't missing. He was a first team regular before he got injured and we're still paying him. Just because Wigan have superb strength in depth and have covered his absence doesn't mean he isn't absent. He is one of the many missing players that Wigan had to cope without against Leeds.
Quote="P-J"Are they both still being counted against the Salary Cap?
They were missing then.'"
I meant neither would even be in the starting 17, they haven't played all season either, one isn't even employed by the club, just a silly thing to type
They were both on the starting roster, and would both be strong candidates to play, if they were playing as they were when injured... Thats undeniable.
So they are missing/unavailable, from our plans at the start of the season.
