Quote ="ROBINSON"I don't know what people are moaning about.
This is Shaun Wane's FIRST season as a super league head coach. His career in that capacity is six matches old. Six.
I'm as disappointed as anyone over his team selection and the fact we lost, but come on - don't you think Wane knows he's cocked up by doing too much too soon in terms of his youngsters? Of course he does. One thing's for sure - he won't do it again.
I'm also damn sure that had Wigan held onto the 36-18 lead they built up, there wouldn't be ANY moaning, and everyone would be banging on about how good our youngters are and how good Wane is. Even so, it's not Wane who missed tackles, dropped balls and gave away stupid penalties. In fact, towards the end, Finch was the biggest culprit, so you can't even point the finger at the youngsters, here!
As it happened it backfired. Get over it. We're a better side than this and in the long term it's ONE dropped game. This one game won't make any difference to our season whatsoever.
I think everyone needs to give Wane more than six matches on which to make their judgement about him. Either that, or grow a pair of eyes.'"
Well said. Wane knows that one or two more senior players would have vastly improved the squad and would have resulted in a win and he knows how much some of those fringe players can do as a group. It's all about learning and I trust that he will do just that.
Even Madge made some big mistakes in his time at Wigan, such as constantly persisting with Tuson as a 4th prop rather than playing Feka when it was obvious we struggled and as soon as he relented and brought Feka back we played much better. Young coaches don't get it right first time and any mistakes or deficiencies need to be found out and worked out as soon as possible, just like with players.
