Quote ="MattyB"There was a game against Widnes away where we clinched the title - early nineties, live on ITV with Clive Tyldesley. Bobbie Goulding kicked a penalty/conversion (not an easy one) to win the game with Tyldesley saying "What's Bobbie Goulding made of? Sugar and spice and all things nice". Cracking kick, curled it into the wind straight bteween the posts.
Re: 1996, we didn't win the league that year. London draw cost us the title. Stains won it on points difference (McRae's team).'"
the last minute goulding kick was earlier in the season around february time i think. widnes had gone in front a minute from time after davies had converted a last minute offiah try from the touchline. i think the kick was actually a penalty against widnes almost from the restart. it wasnt a title clincher but was certainly a four pointer as widnes were a good side at the time having pipped us to the title the year before in the last game of the season.
