The trouble is, a lot of famous sportsment are the targets of morons who think they can gob off and say what they like to them. I remember I was in a bar and a typical idiot poured a pint of beer over someone I knew quite well, who happened to be wearing a new suit. Unfortunatelly for the idiot his target was also European heavywight boxing champion at the time - a short left hook ended the matter and nothing more was said. Today the world is a much softer place and there would be a hue and cry, police would be involved and , no doubt, half of Westminster would be trying to get their share of publicity. I don't know the facts about Jonathan, but sadly nowadays the guilty party is often the winner of the fracas rather than the idiot who started it.

Mumbles is a genteel, Victorian seaside resort. It's one of the most middle class, expensive areas of Swansea. Pay a visit to some of the bars at the top of Newton Road and you'll see the most middle class 'beautiful people', posing all over the place, spending shedloads of cash and only moaning that Swansea doesn't have a Waitrose!

The Hancock is a wendyball pub, full of wendyball fans. Wendyball fans are the same everywhere.

If you think Mumbles is rough, come down and I'll take you for a pub crawl in Townhill, Blaenymaes, Bonymaen and we'll finish up in a few pubs around the Vetch Field!

Went out down there with a welsh mate of mine and he said I will take you round Mumbles. Anyway the place we went did not sound like you describe it! Nearly got my head smashed in just for having an english accent

My parents live in Mumbles. They said that many league fans stay there over the Millenium Magic weekend.
They've drunk in the pubs with them and always had a laugh. Everyone gets on.

There's always an idiot somewhere who wants to have a go at the English.
I've been on the receiving end as a Welshman in London for over 20 years!


Having said all that, as Mumbles pubs go, The Hancock is a serious dive. You'd stick to the carpet if they had one.

Mumbles rough? Not a chance, get up the valleys good old ex-mining communities with little new employment since the closure of the pits. Not a million miles from many areas of the North West but without the decent transport links.
