Quote ="EHW"If there are problems with the way the RFL are running the game, its members (the clubs) would vote for change. As no club has put forward a proposal to increase the salary cap (as far as I know), and it hasnt been voted on by its members then clearly the clubs dont think there needs to be changes made to the salary cap.
I am not saying that the RFL is a perfect organisation, and that nothing can improve - but we have to be realistic. RL in England is a regional sport, and the bigger boys are going to steal our toys when they can....its a fact of life. RL took the best players from RU for 100 years - we cant complain when it happens now, and we dont like it. We have to suck it up, and try to make things better.'"
I agree. We're not going to stop Tomkins or others in the near term. But go look at Nigel Wood's statement on the RFL site. He closes by re-emphasizing his 'vision' to have the RFL recognized throughout the world as a leading governing body. Can we not have a vision for the *sport*, rather than vision for how much back-slapping he wants for himself? What does 'leading' mean? Anything he wants. He can say they always make a profit, or they've got the best equal-opportunities policy, anything. Who decides whether they've acheived their vision? They find someone to say.."oh yes, that RFL, leading body that is" and then they can turn round to us all and claim they did a good job. It's all horsesh*t.
All we get is "to create the best...." with no defintion of what that means and therefore nothing that's specific or actionable. Lazy, pathetic stuff. Our game deserves better.
Lots of people come on here saying..." well we'll never compete with Union.." as if that statement, true or false, means we should just settle for mediocrity. Regardless of who or what we have a chance of competing with, we should always be driving the game forward as strongly as possible, and these guys are not up to that job.
