Just because Gleeson only got 4 try assists last season doesnt mean having a natural centre inside Goulding didnt help. Gleeson may of helped create space for the cutout pass etc and Gleeson may have set Goulding up but then he fluffed it? Therefore them stats are flawed.

Goulding couldnt score a try out of nothing from deep and was unlikely to turn a game on its head, Charnley on the other hand is dangerous from anywhere on the pitch with ball in hand. Goulding did well last season but he is not in the same class as Charnley imo.

If the argument is that Goulding scored so many tries and Gleeson only got 4 assists, how is Goulding fluffing an opportunity an argument in Gleeson's favour when a fluffed opportunity wouldn't have resulted in a try.

Gleeson was pretty good for Wigan, but he wasn't the sole reason Goulding scored so many tries. The centre generally isn't the one responsible for creating space for a cut-out pass. The space gets created further in field making sure that the opposing winger ends up with a centre as his man and then all that's left to do is for the player to miss out the centre and put the winger clear.

For example Gleeson may of passed to Goulding 20 times in a favourable position but Goulding only scored 4 hence why Gleeson only got 4 try assists. Them stats only tell us how many times Gleeson set somebody up and they scored, he could of set somebody up many more times but they fluffed it. You cant use the assist stats of a centre in this comparison because the winger may of been a reason why the centres assists count was so low.

I never said that Gleeson was the sole reason for Gouldings tries I was just trying to say them stats are flawed, which they are.

But watching the games we know that isn't the case, Goulding was nothing if not consistent - he finished everything and everything that he was offered. However, he is not as exciting and dynamic as Charnley, hence he is behind him in the pecking order.

I wish we had seen Goulding at centre more this year, I was excited about the prospect of Tomkins in his position, but Joel just doesn't seem as effective in the role he plays there - I was hoping to see his SR running game as the main strike just further out, instead it seems like he tries too hard to be a centre which he is not. Additionally Joel doesn't seem suited to aspects we use him for now such as scooting that Goulding is technically our best at imo.

In all, I wouldn't blame Goulding for looking for first team action elsewhere, which he could easily get, but I would be more bothered than a lot on here to see him go. He isn't the best physically, but technically he's going to get better and better at Wigan - not so sure elsewhere, Gleeson wasn't physically great for a centre either but had the skills once he'd matured a bit. A shame.

We've given Daz many opportunities at centre and on the wing, sometimes a player is just not good enough for the standards you want to set within your club.

I don't even agree with the 'he's a good squad player though theory' either. He's standing in the way of strong up and coming talent who are ready to step up and be given the chance Daz has already had. King and Russell spring to mind.
