Quote ="Bilko"With them doing the test match Live from Wigan on Saturday, I was trying to think when was the last time BBC TV came to Wigan to televise a game Live. For a club that was once on Grandstand half a dozen times a season at least, they've not been on much recently.
The answer was 2004 - Wigan 38 Widnes 12 Challenge Cup Round 4. Almost 6 years ago.
The only other time the BBC did a Wigan game here was Wigan 34 Hull 10 - Round 4 in 2002.
So they've televised as many neutral games (St Helens v Leeds twice) from the JJB, as it was, than Wigan games.
Just highlights that we've still never had a big draw home cup game at the JJB despite 27 seperate (i.e 4th, 5th and Quarter Final Round) draws that could have giving us a big draw home game. It's not like we've always gone out the cup early in that time.
Compare that to Saints in the same time span. They've had 29 (4th/5th/QF draws) and have played Wigan (twice), Warrington (twice), Bradford and Leeds at Knowsley Road.
Then you think of Leeds. We've been there twice recently, they had Saints at home this year as well. They've had more luck in three years than we have all decade.
Random thinking from me here but I hope the new decade to follow rewards us with some more luck in cup draws. We are desperate I think for a big home cup tie. I've lost some heart for the cup and I think the lack of big home cup ties is a big factor in that.
We've had nothing since we moved.'"
You raise a good point, but the law of averages states that maybe because Wigan were on TV so much that at some point they will be on much less, as it all evens out in the end I guess.
