Quote ="Deano G"Tomkins and McIlorum did very well last night.
When you see talent like that coming through it gives you real hope for the future of Wigan rugby, despite a decade of mismanagement and a decline in standards on and off the field.
Tomkins has more potential than any young Wigan player I've watched since the days of Farrell and Robinson.
People have said we should build a team around him. Its possibly a little early to be saying that; what we can say is that we have a naturally gifted rugby player on our books and his development should be a massive priority for this club.
I'm also becoming increasingly impressed with McIlorum.
What we should be doing IMO is building for the future around young players like these two, and key established players like Lockers (who has been superb this season and was great again last night, he's the best 13 in the Soopah Doopah League by a country mile) and Richards to mentor and lead them.
We need a coach that will pick a core of young players and work with them to develop them.
We also need a backroom set-up that is totally focussed on excellence and a club culture in which nothing less than the best is acceptable.
Maybe Sam will go on to be a truly great player. My fear is that we never find out how good he could be, because the state of the club these days will prevent him from fulfilling his potential (or that he will have to leave the club to do so).'"
Or maybe Deano, he will be one of the players that kickstarts us to becoming a great club again. Let's not forget that it's great players that make great clubs. Without the likes of Edwards, Hanley, Bell etc. we would never have been a great club in the 80s
