Just watched Wigan v Leeds 1998 Grand Final. I'd forgotten what a brilliant fast game it was. I could only remember Robinson's try. Leeds were rough! Fleahy, Farrell, Newton, Morley, Masella and Glanville with big hits, not always legal. Wigan had 3 bood bins in the first half-hour. Harris, MOS, had a great game. If you've got it, watch it again.

And...just watched the Twickenham sevens. Boy, did we have some pace and match winners.

27-0 was a great occasion at the time, but watching the match back now, it's as boring as hell. One sided, riddled with mistakes, slow and not really a spectacle. Wigan didn't play well, and St Helens were worse than woeful.

In fact the best bit was when Dean Bell knocked that bloke's head off, only for the BBC camera to focus on Alex Murphy. Lipreaders will clearly be able to see him shout "Get him off the f**kin field - the dirty b***stard! Effing this effing that." Priceless.

Yes, sometimes our memory plays tricks on us. In the late 70s I went down to Scot Lane Labour Club to watch some old films from the 60s of Wigan and Great Britain.
It was awful! 3 yards at the play the ball with markers striking our wildly. What a mess. I enjoyed it live but watching it years later was a big disappointment.
However, I can assure you that Wigan v Leeds in 1998 was a terrific game, even better than I remember.
