WTF is your point? Do you even have one? Quins have moved grounds in the past, they've also changed names, but they are not unique in this situation, end of. Now there are implications for rebranding and changing grounds, but it's not the RFL doing us a favour, it's a matter of operational necessity, just like Saints playing at Widnes for a year, or Wigan selling their ground to Tesco and moving to Robin Park etc...

| cHILI..., given that you have gone of the subject of crowds and moved onto identity, can we take it you accept that we lose a point for our pi55 poor attendances, but score pretty well on the other points?
Good lad. Accepting you're wrong from time to time is all part of growing up
.
Now, Identity! The Harlequins tie in has not proved as fruitful as was initially hoped, that is for sure, but our crowds are pretty much static across the board. Since 3,592 is the average gate of a home london game between 2000 and this season, I think it's pretty safe to say that regardless of what we are called, or where we play has little or no effect on our attendance figues. So, the idea of moving and name changing would seem to be fanciful.
Most on these boards know my opinion on the lack of fans and why it is the case, so I will steer away from that, but in short, Harlequins RL is what we are and IMO, Harlequins RL is what we should stay. No point in alienating 700 or so fans from West London who have become reglulars in th hope of attracting more new and loyal fans in another area.
Therefore, I would suggest that identity/location is not a problem for Quins RL either.....and regular visitors to these boards will know what I think the problem is

Indeed, if you look at our average crowds during the whole SL era, the only thing that really stands out is actually hardly rocket science. This is simply that we tend to have had bigger gates when the team has performed better. (Points difference perhaps being a better overall indicator of performance than league position). While there is a hardcore of fans who will turn up whatever, a larger group are influenced by what boffins would refer to as the notion of basking in reflected glory (and the opposite of cutting off reflected failure). Put simply most people don't want to associate with the sort of e being dished out currently at the Stoop.

SNAPSHOT.
2002 8th place finish 3,803 average
2003 5th Place finish 3,545 average (down 7%) First time in the play-offs....missed opportunity to market heavily in 2004
2004 10th Place finish 3,460
2005 6th place finish 3,918.
Not a lot can be read into these figures apart from 2005 we got a lot of press mid season when we were in the finncial mire, but even then, our crowds were worse at the end of the season and the biggest gate for a game at Griffin Park was managed when the club actually MARKETED THE GAME!
I agree that we will attract more fans when we are winning, but the club don't have the luxury of time to wait for that to happen. Interesting that all 4 years at Griffin park had an average of 3,681....and the 5 year average at the stoop is.....3,625.....not much in it to be honest.
If anything, 7th, 9th, 9th 11th and last this year should have seen a bigger drift away.......but I think the stoop, the matchday experience (no matter how crap they are on the pitch) the bands etc...have managed to keep people coming back.
We stay at the stoop and we have a chance to kick on over the next 4 years and build a supporter base from pretty dsolid foundations.....we move and IMO we will colapse by 2014 with less fans than we have now.

| I think we've done well to hang on to the fans that we've got (makes you wonder how things might have progressed if we had kept in the play-offs last year).
Most clubs would struggle with our home win record (I make it 5 wins out of the last 18 home games).
Back on topic, I am surprised any bugga went to this game at all. I think Quins fans should have boycotted it after the last debacle (and the so-called Welshies scuppered the Jon Wells testimonial game too).
What happened with this game would not have happened to any other club.
Anyone else think that maybe they moved the game to fit in with Nobby's BBC commitments?

What I don't understand about this is:
Quote He was classed as overseas when signing for KR ahead of the 2008 season.
However, as he was already plying his trade in Super League before reductions to the overseas quota were made, he is now classed as 'federation trained'.'"
We have 5 players on the quota:
Dorn (plying his trade in Super League since 2005)
Temata (end of 2005)
Randall (2006)
Howell (200icon_cool.gif
Williamson (2009)
Surely that means 4/5 are federation trained and not quota? By this logic it's only Williamson who is a quota player.
Now I don't understand the rules, mainly because I can't find anywhere where they are explained clearly. It seems ridiculous now that the RFL diddled us out of keeping Rinaldi due to 'quota' restrictions a few years back.

Cricket was being played nearby on Saturday and there were concerns a ball would land on the pitch. Apparently the Counterfeit Crusaders didn't think of buying some nets and thought it would be better to move the game with a weeks notice. See: never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity.

| That's a good lesson for me, PTB (but I'm afraid I still don't buy it.)
Re the joke Quota rules, I don't think we need worry about them anymore.
Williamson will be gone, I bet Karl T will be off and it sounds like we won't be signing anyone anyway. Time to do away with the whole overseas quota charade, imo.
As for Ju Ju, I think the quota thing was all a smokescreen, as I don't think Brian rated him.

| That's interesting with regards to Rinaldi. We had to sign Ben Kaye, who for whatever reason didn't settle and then Andy Ellis who looks super promising but didn't play a game until June/July.

With Newts & Benny off the quota we now have room for two more overseas players this season, the club are also trying to get Joel Clinton off the quota next season too.

I can understand why you have to resort to attracting players from distant lands who may not heard of Hull. You should at least send them a link to [url=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vEXEekmhUtsthis[/url as a heads up.

Tad harsh to respond with personal insults , for the record we don't don flatcaps, as you probably don't munch on jellied eels whilst singing around the piano to Chas & Daves songs.
Over the hill or fringe NRL players ???... Michael Dobson , Clint Newton and rumoured signing Blake Green are hardly "over the hill " are they , Joel Clinton is approaching an healthy age but is ripping trees up for us at the moment .

Second time you've posted that.....and I am still at a loss as your reason for doing so.
I have posted more thoughts, ideas, musings, boll0x, utter rubbish and insane schemes with regard to getting more fans to games than you've probably had hot meals Chili. At no stage have I ever blamed where we are or what we are called for the bad attendances. People that use location/name as an axcuse are generally either anti union to the point of insanity or just unable to see the bigger picture.
London Irish now play their home games 30 miles and a 45 minute drive away from their original ground......they attract some of the best crowds in the Guinness Premiership....they have not lost their identity and believe they only lost 600 ST holders when they first moved to Reading in 2001. They have attracted crowds as big as 24k to games in reading through marketing and promotion. These gates, with averages over 10k a season have little to do with the geography and everything to do with marketing and promotion. FWIW, Quins could call themselves the London Nomads and play at a different stadium every week.....I believe they would still attract 3,200 as an average gate. The 2,500 poor souls who currently go to games would trudge along to Loftus road, the olympic stadium, the stoop, Griffin Park etc etc...and the club would still struggle to increase gates. Without a marketing plan names and location are pointless.
Anyway, back to the Original Point.....why do you keep posting the results of a poll started by a non quins fan?

As the original point was to do with a game 7 days ago in Wales, we may as well end this one now and let the kr trolls get back to what they do best on the FC forum. We have kept them away for long enough now.
