As is said, Australian visas are waiting to be confirmed, still a month until training starts again!

Genuinely hope you're optimism is warranted.....I see us needing a spine of QLND cup standard players including a prop, half and lose forward as well as a full back.....and we need depth. 25 players minimum.....

One thing is certain if we have a thiner squad than last year, which is what it looks like, we will do worse. Not least because others have strengthened. We’ve lost our 2 stand out players in Hankinson and Miski and I doubt the Academy will fill that gap and by the sound of things getting in big units, which we had few enough anyway before the departure of Richards and Baverette and one assumes Gwaze, is a challenge for all teams across the pyramid which is why so many have been signed up already by less reticent teams. Sigh.

James Meadows off to Batley. I didn't see that one coming!

To Batley!!!! Say that out loud to yourself. He’s leaving London to go to Batley. We are in serious, serious trouble.

I think the point is that Bately are now seen as a superior side to further your career than London. Meadows was a liability yes, but how long will it be before we are reading about some of our squad heading off to West wales Raiders. While we take Aussie barmen \ bouncers looking to supplant their student income

He makes mistakes, no question but is one of our more experienced home grown products and is capable of good things.
If he weighs it up and thinks part time in Batley is a better option that does set off alarm bells.

Yep Crash that is my point exactly. There is only a finite number of our squad that can go back to college to remain at a PT Broncos. What happens when they graduate.

Unless he knows who's coming in and realises he won't get a game.

I never rated him and can only hope it means we have someone better lined up. Time will tell.

There is an assumption here that Meadows was given an offer by The Broncos. It is quite possible that he was not.

That’s true and the consensus on here is he was not all that but I would have thought he was nearer the finished article than the Academy has currently. However as Curtisnsays perhaps we are about to swoop for some quality in which case if funds are short fair enough but if we couldn’t match Bartley’s offer or he thought Batley was a better option that wouldn’t be great.

Yep. One assumes he will be on part time at Batley - £15-18k? if he has to pay rent that won’t go far even if the cost of a pint is less. Rent will be much less but and I’m guessing here maybe he lives at home or shares rent with some pals who I assume won’t be making the journey to outskirts of Leeds.

Maybe, as Victor infers, he was surplus to requirements at the New Broncos and/ or he hasn’t been able to work out a pt career that would fit around RL and fancies a change. There again maybe he thinks we’ll be relegated and doesn’t fancy it much. It’s either a bold or a desperate move. Time will tell.

Shocking isn’t it! Having said that what little I have heard about Batley as a place I doubt he would live there. More likely nearer Leeds city and I suspect the rent are a little higher.

Students who have student accommodation, or local players who already own a house and whose partner works are the only talent we will be able to attract to play PT in London. We won't be getting PT players from the north moving down, they won't be able to afford it

And that’s before they go to a pub and try to buy a drink. And imagine if they have to get a cab home. That would blow their minds.
