Maybe we had paid over the odds for him as we did Wilkes and DH is cutting the bigger earners from the wage bill-I doubt Randall is earning half what he was.

When you think Purdo, Orr, 2 Aussies have left/leaving, Randall probably on a reduced wage that will free up a big chunk of the SC.

Ellis was earning about 50% of what Randall was earning last season, and less that Wilkes.

Randall shouldn't be given the captains band, i dont believe he offers as much as he should do when hes captain, he gives away too many stupid penalities at times, especially ones when you think 'you're a fool Randall' shouldn't get these sort of penalties given by the captain.

Indeed. Ellis had never played Super League before he came to us and won't have been on much. Wilkes has been playing SL for ages, Randall is obviously Hughes' little pet.

There is something that isn't quite right about all of this.

wakefield could well be a "top side" next season with the new recruits (with a load more to come) and improving yougsters. andrew glover has said they now have the funds to spend the full salary cap so it seems a good move for both ellis and wakefield.

Look how many seasons it took Simon Moran at Warrington before money bought success, so lets wait and see, a lot of teams may be spending money, many money that they don't have! except those with owners who may have some money.

Terrible news for you guys, Ellis looked class for you, even when all around him looked average. You think this is because of the Gower signing? I know you have him pegged to play in the halves, but I'm pretty sure he was playing hooker before he headed to yawnion. Plus, Witt is a freak and can pretty much play the role of both halfbacks!

From what I heard there is nothing supicious with the contract situation with Ellis. Apparently there was a good (no I dont know how much) offer on the table for him to stay but he wanted to try and go to one of the bigger clubs up north as there was interest initially. Eventually the quins set a deadline for him to sign as they needed to sign a replacement if he was going to leave. The deadline was not met and the quins removed the contract offer and signed Rinaldi. The bigger clubs lost interest in Ellis and Wakey was his only option apparently.

If this is true, I am a little happier! Though we should have tried harder to keep him.

Glad the club have come out and atleast let us know as fans. We are an important commodity to the club and as such should be kept informed of things like player movements....especially if it is a situation like this one.

If the club had come out earlier and made this statement then this thread would have only been 2 pages long and all the doom sayers would have understood what happened instead of reading between the lines and spreading rubbish.

Have for certain brought back Rinaldi for next year? Not saying its untrue...but I'll wait until its official before moaning about it....seems the sensible thing to do



In other news....very happy that Sarginson has extended his deal...hope he stays with us longer than LMS at SL level.

Anyone else think that this whole affair is extremely unprofessional on behalf of both parties? I don't know why the club felt compelled to release a statement, I had already come to the same conclusion that niles had posted, and that was the end of it.

Presumably Ellis would have an agent involved also.

Well looks like Ellis has come off worse, he has to go to Wakefield. I understand why he would want to go to big club, but he hasn't looked special since we looked good, and showing the occasional spark may have seen Leeds decide not to pursue an interest. Either way the best thing for the club and Andy would have been to talk, but guess that's a loss for both parties. Hopefully life lessons learned by the player and a communication lesson learned by the organisation. Both Andy and ourselves lose out, and another team who are going to spend towards what we are to spend gains one of our early season stars, leaving Wakefield the only winners.

I don`t see the problem with the club issuing a statement to clarify what seems to be misinformation. Time and time again they are criticised for not communicating, not acting fast enough, making seemingly dumb decisions etc……….in this case Ellis appears to have turned down an offer in the hope for something better and it is right that the club should refute claims that a contract was never offered. After protracted discussions Ellis made his choice and the club had to make theirs, nothing wrong in that. If they did not make a statement (given Ellis was seen by many as one of our better players) then the perception with supporters remains that the club have somehow messed up, again!!

I am more concerned with who we are signing and who is going to be retained for next year, as it seems we still have a long way to go in establishing a full competitive squad.

I fully support the club coming out with a statement after the article in the weekly rugby league media which seemed to picture the club badly, so why should they not clarify the situation?

Pinky - Ellis went off injured in France the other week, so I would guess that is the reason why he's not in the squad for tomorrow (oh and Purdo picked up a neck injury during that game too).

We topped the league at the start of the season, and we looked good at that time. I know it feels so very long ago, but surely I'm not the only one who can remember that we can turn it on.
