| It's more important to me to make friends with my fellow supporters, enjoy the league, have a bit of a sing song and a couple of beers in the bar with whoever wants to drink with me, home or away supporters.
That's why Quins is good.

| got to think there are a lot of dumb people out there if you've not worked out that the stand faces the sun yet.
Lexus might be closer to the pitch but give me a cold beer and a nice seat in the sun anytime than sitting in the dark.
Still agree there should be more than one stand open but to not have the foresight to bring sunnies is just plain stupid, Its britian ffs, weather changes, even when its raining you should have em on you.

| We ended up sitting in AC (good compromise for us as Mrs ER is a quins fan and I'm a Leeds fan). Thought it had a good atmosphere as could hear both sets of fans singing and cheering their team, nice bit of banter between the fans too.
Couple of blokes who were new to RL (and the stoop) sat not that far from us and seem to enjoy themselves, despite being sat next to a foul-mouthed drunk in Bulls shirt - still he staggered down the steps with 20mins to go.
I thought the football shirt promotion was a good idea, but very poorly executed. If there had been a week or so's lead in time - I might have been able to persuade a few footie fans from work to come. One's I saw in football shirts seemed mainly to be quins fans taking advantage of the offer including the bloke near me in his Leeds Utd top!
Less convinced by the community dance stuff getting people in. People sat behind us in first half didn't pay any attention to the game at all, just had a good natter in the sun, then collected their kids at half-time and went home.
Have to say, did enjoy the sun too - but was prepared with cap and sunglasses.

| I don't get this stand debate. I really miss being able to cheer the team off at the end of a game but 30 seconds after kick off I'm absorbed in the match. Only notice the sun when I jump up to cheer a Quins try and my sun glasses fall off! A recent recruit to RL I've been to two away games - Crusaders and Hull KR, based on those experiences we have a fantastic stadium and the East stand is still far better than what's on offer at either of those grounds. Atmosphere may be an entirely different discussion.

At last some sanity. We have the best rugby stadium in the country. Yes it was sunny, get over it. I do like the idea that we could all be in the Lexus and then move for the Sky games, seems like a good compromise until gates of finances pick up.

| I like watching at the Stoop too - but I can see much better from the Lexus than the East. The fact that our stadium is better than most will hardly be a factor to those we are trying to attract new to the game - so we should offer attendees the best we can, not forgetting they can always sunbathe, drink and talk to others at many other places.

I'll say it again.
Next year, if we must stay in the East Stand (rather than the west stand ) then allocate 3 mid sections for ST's and the rest un-allocated for Home fans. When playing Celtic, French, Salford, Hudds and Wakey then alocate AA to their fans. Tape it off if need be, but keep them in there.
For the other teams (averaging over 3,000 gates since 2000 season) open the North.

| Been on holiday so just read all this
Quote Sky have set the criteria, they are the pay master- nothing more we can do.
Are you sure of that fact? Why has it not been implemented in other clubs, why only Quins. Shame Boss Hogg is not around to verify.
On health grounds I fully agree with people on here having watched my sister have a very long lingering painful death with skin cancer I hate sitting in the sun for long. I suffer from Diabetes and the sun in my eyes hurts and causes damage over a prolonged period. Some love the sun, some don't. We shouldn't be made to feel uncomfortable by any fans because our preference is to sit in the shade.
The sun in your eyes does spoil the game for some, everyone should be listened to we are paying customers and when the views of all are heard a democratic decision reached. I know of a number of people who will not renew tickets next season and we cannot afford to loose a single paying customer.

| Being in the shade spoils the game for me as I get cold and prefer a warmer temperature.
Swings and roundabouts.
I could put on a jumper like others could put on sunglasses, a hat or even sun cream. Sun doesn't automatically equal skin cancer.
Not everyone can be happy but we can't move the whole stand based on a minority who don't like the sun for various reasons. Thousands of people lining beaches enjoy the sunshine tells you where the majority is.

Great link.
Quote "Enjoy the sun safely this summer," says Rebecca Russell of Cancer Research UK's SunSmart campaign. "Spending time under beach umbrellas, wearing hats and beach cover-ups and using sunscreen are all ways to enjoy your beach holiday while reducing your risk of skin cancer."'"
And yer I suppose sitting on a beach for hours on end is comparable to 80 minutes with a break half way through.
Worst argument ever.

My argument was with people cooking themselves on the beach, not with those who like to sit in the Etihad stand.
Though I'm in agreement with Alison. My arguments against the Etihad are to do with glare from the sun, distance from pitch and distance from the subs bench. For daytime games, a seat at the back of the stand (like mine) ensures that you're not in the sun, though doesn't eliminate the glare or distance problems. Different story for evening games, but they're not a problem for me as they'll be on Sky so I'll stay home.

Sky did this for one game, but never repeated it. Presumably the west stand is provided with facilities that they need.

There isn't an argument there though. People sit on the beach and enjoy themselves safely - also possible at a rugby match.

Wear a pair of sunglasses and suncream if you've got such a massive issue - like people do on a beach. I didn't notice many people complaining on Saturday, just people relaxing, enjoying the sunshine and the match.
This isn't an attack on you personally btw, just this ridiculous argument in general.

| This sunshine thread must give the club ammo to think that some of our fans will find anything to moan about. I bet that there is no thread bleating about the sun on any other club site, In fact some up north would welcome the sun. NB I am a person who avoids the sun at every juncture. Maybe the club could sell Quins burqas for those who want to cover up.
