| Shall we simplify it;
Why have Potter, McGuire, Smith, Robinson, Brown, Waite been successful during stints in the UK?
Why are most of the top teams coached by Aussies?
Hate it all you will, its fact. The game in Aus is more advanced because its a bigger sport than in UK and has more resources thrown at it-You cant get away from that.
You ask the Australian National Football team if they thought that before beating England 3-1 that England learnt more because it's bigger.
You argument about a one of soccer event shows you dont understand the argument. The Aus football league is no where near as strong as the soccer league in UK. If we held a SL style league against league event with Chelsea Man U, City etc they would thrash every Aus team they played because soccer is huge here, huge resources and very advanced compared to the non league soccer in Aus-Do you see where I'm coming from? Mancini would win the soccer league in Aus should he go there after Man City as would Fergie, Wenger etc beacuse of the skills they have learnt in the best comp in the world.

"They do learn more because the game is bigger in oz". You believe that ES. It's exactly the mentality that keeps us and the game where it is, looking up at them. And guess what. It's nonsense. But belief is a large part of it. You ask the Australian National Football team if they thought that before beating England 3-1 that England learnt more because it's bigger.
I'd love to talk to an England RL side who came out here. I'd love to get people who have played in both comps to talk to them. Or were coaches, trainers, conditioners, physios. etc. etc. We fans, don't know this, we just see our national side not beating the aussies in a series. And we believe they are superior in every department including coaching.
Overall it's the capability of the individual rather than where he comes from or how good he played. a la Meninga, Lewis, Fittler. etc. etc. with the flip side being someone like Maguire who was a reserve grade player and only played around 18 or so first grade games in 7 years.
Sorry to harp on, but I do find it frustrating people's perceptions of the mighty aussies back home. Maybe ask an Adrian Morley or a Gareth Ellis when he gets back to talk about a big difference.

coaches and players who make it to the very top in oz are better cos there's far more competition. Our top players are good enough to compete ish, but our top coaches really aren't IMO.

| Quote ="wire quin"Why are most of the top teams coached by Aussies?'"
Because people back home think they must be better, look to Oz first before giving someone in the UK a chance. When really they are not. It's a continual, recycling self-fulfilling prophecy we have. Someone has to win. Even an English coach like McDermott. And out of the traditionally big UK clubs, WIgan are top with an English coach. How come? Is he a good coach, or he has the troops or what?
Quote ="wire quin"Hate it all you will, its fact. The game in Aus is more advanced because its a bigger sport than in UK and has more resources thrown at it-You cant get away from that.'"
I don't hate it. I don't totally agree with it. How are you quantifying it's more advance?
Quote ="wire quin"Mancini would win the soccer league in Aus should he go there after Man City as would Fergie, Wenger etc beacuse of the skills they have learnt in the best comp in the world.'"
We don't know that. That's a theory of yours. Completely based on an another impression that you have and nothing that could be proven until it happened.
I know I won't convince many people back home, because they can point to what's in black and white. ie. results. However, if we didn't hire the aussie coaches in the first place, someone will always finish top and bottom.
There are too many back home who have the ingrained notion about an aussie superiority and more significantly a British inferiority. The quicker that gets challenged and eroded, the better. But people have to come here to really see it. That's why people should ask the UK players that have played here. You don't have to ask the Morleys, ask the Flanagans, Tanseys, Mathers and Worrincys of the world about it.

The 2 worst coaches in SL by some distance are Powell and Betts.

Based on what? You having played under both coaches? Or their league positions? If it is their league position, does that mean the best coach is the one in first place then? So the English geezer at Wigan then! Or the one that won the title last year?
Look I know I'm not going to convince many in the UK who have been brought up being told how great the aussies are in all RL departments. I accept that.

| As far as British coaches are concerned, I'd imagine that our problem is location. Given the insecurity surrounding the job (even more so than for players) I can't see anyone being prepared to move South when if they don't succeed they could be out of a job possibly within a year. As far as Australian coaches are concerned, even clubs down under can be taken in by a good publicity machine - look at all the praise Brian Smith gets and he's won diddly squat in his coaching career!

| All this aussie V english coaches: Look who won the Grand Final...... Leeds ....coached by the same coach we rubbished when he was down here!
This London team have to stand up and take responsibility and RP has to face it that he can't motivate to save his life. Looking at the body language as the teams came out of the dressing room at Hudds - he was skulking behind others looking at the floor. He's pathetic.
And it was selective 'camerarderie' and backslapping from some players. Just watch it again if you didn't wipe it in disgust.

I can't recall any chairman/coaches comments coming anywhere near that. Well said David Hughes. Here's hoping it produces results

Based on them both being incapable of motivating and organising a SL squad to even compete in nearly all their games this year. NOT their league position which is another matter. Betts and Powell wouldn't get near a top job in the NRL. Wane seems ok but too early to tell, McDermott still isn't a top coach for me Leeds are mid table again this year which is not acceptable for that club.

| So does this mean it is all the players fault that they are acheiving nothing and not the coach's? Does it mean we are stuck with Powell for what seems forever? How depressing is that.

| Powell has always been in over his head. No real education in the game and I doubt he has the dressing room at the club.
He should have never been given the post last year, and Hughes is wasting his money spending the cap with blind freddy at the wheel.

Assuming they were fired and not walked? whichever not exactly set the work alight have they, but that in turn comes right back to the door of one of the people supposedly carrying out the review
Strong words from DH but to what end? playing staff e, ok, why? it really cannot be that difficult to come up with an answer from them, it also is beyond belief that it takes being knocked out in the cup for this process to supposedly start. What have the board been thinking about this past 3 months?
What the hell are the staff measured by, I would have had a new ringpiece fitted by now, not to mention the spanish archer if my or my teams performances were tracking as bad as this clubs, and it's not just this season is it.
Assuming DH is as mickied off as he says, then grab the thing by the balls, Gus gets the club moving across all fronts, no excuses, seasons end to turn all areas around and demonstrate a palpable increase in ST sales for 2013 based upon at least retaining 100% of current ST holders let alone increasing the F%cking numbers.
If you can't do it Gus, then do the right thing and f&ck off now, buck stops with you.
