Craven Park...great thanks awesome atmosphere , really loud the players have commented in the local media how the atmosphere lifts them , team doing well in the play-offs again after our promotion to SL , Stadium development been approved , decent crowds of around 8000, so altogether not too bad at all , we have been linked to some great signings next season too, nice and secure for the franchise ..hows your situation? , have you got decent crowds , any decent signings lined up, play-offs ??it all counts you know .

If you mean Craven Park, great cheers - thousands of fans attend it every fortnight and (considering they continue returning) must enjoy their visits.

yep.....it does. Crowds, terrible and team have been terrible for 2 years.....good job we have a load of other things we will be applauded for....like Stadium, youth development, award winning community work, no financial losses, not even the need for an overdraft, most british team in Superleague.....all things that were pointed out by the RFL as ket to the growth and development of the game.......oh, and the few fans we do have stay off the pitch and don't fight with other fans.......and we are the only club in the area so there's another tick.

The entire basis of any debate involving a HKR fan having a go at Quins is FANS. You will get no argument from me on that as I have been overcritical of the club on this isue for many years, but that's all you bring to the table....fans. There are many other criteria that need to be taken into account...see the ones alluded to above.

In reality though we contribute more to SL then Quins IMO.

True lets debate what Hull KR & Quins bring to SL , only one winner here i'm afraid . Lost arguement from a Quins perspective.

OK. Let's.
Hull Kingston Rovers, a club with a proud 128 year history, play their home games at Craven Park. This 10,000 capacity stadium does not currently meet the criteria as laid out by the RFL for a stadium that is good enough for 21st century sport although planning permission has been sought for the redevelopment of 1 stand......and they have extended the lease on the temporary uncovered seating that have at one end of the ground. The club easily attract the 40% of the capacity to their home games, but the 10,000 capacity is not high enough for them to be awarded a licence point for this either. Rightly proud of their fans and the millions that travel to away games, for some reason, these fans feel that this single point for 40% capacity as an average will ensure them a licence in July 2011. They always seem to forget that their ground isn't up to scratch and that it isn't beg enough.
Youth development is another area where selective memory exists. The fact that HKR have again asked for dispensation to field more Australian/foreign players points to the club seeking glory over long term development. This flies in the face of the RFL's statement regarding the reduction of the numbers of overseas players in SL.
The clubs finances have been stated in the public domain as being shaky at best. 3 million in debt, the club have stated they would need to sell every seat (including the temporary stand) to break even......so they are on shaky ground here as well.
Behaviour of their fans has also raised questions over their suitability for top flight RL. Pitch invasions and fighting with FC fans on the pitch are not good for the image that the RFL want to cultivate and may well count against them come licence application time. They also don't score well on the geographical location, as they have another club near them in a brilliant stadium and with a good record of doing well in SL and the Challenge Cup in recent years.......

So, with dodgy finances, a terrible stadium that is neither big enough or at the standard expected, fans that have trouble behaving, a team full of Australians, a small and inefficient youth set up and a better run club next door, Hull Kingston rovers may well be looking over their shoulders in summer 2011 when at least one current SL club will go.
Harlequins Rugby League, a club that in various guises has existed for 30 years, play their home games in a state of the art Rugby Stadium. With a capacity of 14,750, it not only meets the criteria for facilities, but also is big enoughy to score points as well. The 5,900 needed for 40% average is not threatened at the moment and the club fail to score a point here. With no overdraft needs, the club are in a stron financial position as their benefactor covers any operational losses, so they are on solid ground there. Whilst they can opnly average 3,200 for home games, their fans have always behaved themselves with no pitch invasions or fighting to report.
The team, whilst struggling in the last 2 seasons, are the most britich in Superleague. This is a long way from the late 90's when the side contained mainly overseas players. This year has seen the club field 9 cockneys on more than one occasion and includes 2 England internationals from the London region. Whilst a poin is on offer for contributing to the competitiveness of the superleague, the club score well on their award winning community and development work. In this, the 15th year of Superleague, it would seem that Londons pro RL team will finish last for the first time, but will have done so whilst sticking to the rules on overseas players. The club now fields teams in the age group comps, as well as providing internationals at these levels.
Lastly, it was a condition of BSkyB investing in the superleague that there was a London team involved. The importance of a London team to the competition was again underlined in 2005 when the then London Broncos had to fold and were immediately re-admitted by the other SL chairmen. This decision points to the fact that BSkyB still see the expansion of the game as key to increased advertising revenues.....and also that without the 1,200,000 quid they get a year, these chairmen would be looking at their club folding.
So, there you have it....one club has no current financial worries, a good stadium, a youth set up that is producing internationals, the most british team in the competition and is key to the continued financial suppport that other clubs receive from BSkyB........the other club is Hull Kingston Rovers.

- A fantastic local derby which Sky can't get enough of (even playing it on a Thursday evening for example, desperate that they were just to televise it).
- Good mix of youth and experience

- Sell a ton more merchandise

In my eyes we have more going for us as an SL club. Obviously the RFL will disagree purely because of Quins' geographical location, but that bias will never change.

Besides Lincolnshire is not something either of the two Hull clubs have (AFAIK) looked at tapping into - it's dominated by football clubs (Grimsby, Shorpe, Lincoln City etc), and has always been football, that will never change.

Serious question - if Quins do suffer from a lack of awareness & advertising, hasn't Sky ever helped them with this?

You go one way you're in the sea, you go the other way you're in Hull. Id hide in that stadium every other week for £15.00. London's a bit different.

Pretty sure Shaun Briscoe, Jake Webster, Liam Colbon, Peter Fox, Jasonm Netherton + many others aren't from South Wales or Queensland.

Roofs has responded and responded very well , we have some good home grown talent at Rovers , however we also have some good Aussie players who chose to play for our club , there must have been some attraction for them to come and want to play for our club, i wonder how appealing your club is to potential signings ..............lets face it , you have changed names how many times , your attendance is poop , your away support is poop, your atmosphere is poop, your performance is poop, if the RFL had the courage to admit they had made the "expansion " mistake teams like yours would be relegated , you bring nothing to SL at all, it's rugby Yawnion territory from your neck of the woods , get Widnes & Fax back ,proper RL teams .
