Im trying to prove that the precedent and current trend amongst SL teams is for sponsors to be associated with the local community.

My question to you was WHY they pay money to sponsor the teams? So they pay money to the clubs because they are local? And that is it? For the local community, and not to boost business? P & O Ferries want to be associated with the local community and not boost their business in the North?

Additionally, I suppose there is NOBODY in London interested in such a proposition? There are no local businesses in the South? Nobody could possibily benefit from the exposure being a SL club brings? Really?

Seeing as you are the expert, how much do you think the club will be recieving from this magnificent deal? And don't give me any tosh about non-financial gains.

You honestly think that a sponsorship deal with St Marys College is along the same lines as businesses that turnover millions of £?

Plus, I haven't once mentioned anything about "global budgets", so no idea where you got that one from.

I wont give you Tosh about any non financial gains, as this is part of it. Not 100% but part of it.

From such a partnership with Quins, St Marys could do any of the following

- use Quins facilities for conferences, business meetings, etc for university purposes which makes the brand attraction stronger. Uni's are now business operations as well as seats of learning!

- Quins can now go to UK Sport and bolster their chances of receiving grants/funding/facility upgrades by being associated with Quins

- Use of Quins staff for summer schools and facilities during not out-of-term months is far more desirable.

- Could 'possibly' use the Quins tie-up in literature to attract prospective students to St Marys by calling themselves an Elite Sporting Uni (which in the post 2012 sporting rush is invaluable!)

Cash sums - no idea! (i wont even lie to you!)

Just to point out that Leeds, arguably the biggest RL club, are also sponsored by a university.

As an aside I just find it sadly disappointing that any announcement from the club seems to be met immediately with negatives. It happens with absolutely everything, even recently a printing error by the Castleford programme printers which prior to the explanation was immediately blamed, without any foundation, on the club staff!

Of course there are things to moan about but sometimes some initial consideration of events will answer some of the concerns. For example re St Mary's sponsorship I don't believe we yet know the full details of the deal so how do we know it's bad deal?

There have been plenty of things that have been met by positive responses lately.

Our marketing is cr*p but we have no money to put into it, so i see no problem with this tie up with St Mary's. As long as they've covered all our costs and a bit more everyone's a winner.

Who is this other Uni that is a main shirt sponsor? I know of Huddersfield, no others?

Wigans sponsor is not JJB btw, its Mecca Bingo, but I suppose they are a small local business too? Vesta's turn over billions (literally). P & O? Never heard of them. Parasol turned over £300m last year.

I don't see what the fuss is about. Harlequins get the same fans turn up week in week out. We don't have a pool of 20,000 fans of which only 3,000 turn up for different games, it's the same 2500 and 500 away fans, so why would a company sponsor our shirt? They'd get just as much exposure with an advertising board in the ground!

To tie up with a local uni is excellent for us.

Not that we ever play away, are on Sky or are featured in newspapers and magazines.

Keep the personal insults to a bare minimum please.

After reading these boards for years I came to my first game on Sunday and thought it was great. I will be back on Saturday. I have to say it was all the negative comments from people like Lister that put me off. Why does he persist in this. What is his problem. Why does he berate everything the club does as a negative. This is good news and would have taken a massive amount of work I doubt it dropped in their lap. Why don't the club get a pat on the back for a job well done. Don't drive potential fans away with constant moaning and negativity.

I think a trick has been missed in that if we weren't going to get a "major" sponsor then the charity idea would have given the club great publicity and PR - particularly a national london based charity i.e. Great Ormond Street Hospital.
