| Quote ="Southern Reiver"Oh dear definite drift in this thread. Post this in the new home thread and okay but this is the Haven game.'"
point of order: 2nd post in this thread referring to my posts in the new home thread and incorrectly claiming that such negative posts have driven fans away from this site. It's a blatant scream to the moderators from a whiny little apologist who won't debate the topic in its own thread.
Quote ="jaybs"Why discuss the game? when knocking Hughes and IF we may play at a different ground? no wonder so many people visit these days the site and Never post, there is a lot more discussion on twitter between fans and in much bigger numbers than here.'"
I didn't drift this. Take it up with Jaybs.....

| Think Micky's assessment spot on. Oscar is great growing forward, but his tackling near the line cost 2 tries. Agree that we lacked leadership. Walton and Cunningham did OK, I liked Bartheau and I agree thought Nasso had the best game I have seen him play.
Worryingly Lovegrow went off with what I suspect is concussion and Wes ended limping and didn't take last kick.
An entertaining game, especially for a neutral - but we are a schizophrenic team.....

It might be worth Hendo looking at moving OT when we are defending inside our own 20. In the NRL there are a number of half backs who get shifted away from the defensive hot spots.....Sando and Benji are 2 that immediately spring to mind.

| Quote ="Jim Pooley"You're welcome........I think you'll find that I didn't "drift" the thread, it was the whiny Hughes apologist who was crying to the moderators in a totally unrelated thread, because Hughes Tenure and his abilities as an owner were being questioned in another thread about us being homeless AGAIN.....I suggest you take up the drift with him. Maybe you could contact him on Twitter where there was apparently an avalanche of activity surrounding the Broncos. They do have nearly 14,000 followers on Twitter now......something that the whiner thinks is more important than the 657 who paid the landlord to watch the game!
Drone Drone
Thanks for that. Woke up expecting us to have cruised to the 2 points and was shocked that we'd shipped over 20 points to Haven. Still, games like this will keep us honest going into the Releg8's in a few weeks.
Is there any silverware on offer for winning the third 8? Not that I've totally given up on 4th, but realistically that's where we'll be.'"

| Only problem with moving OT in the line is opposition do spot him so can't see the point.
Wes plays on the fringes so not really best position to direct things. Lovegrove was a concussion he had his 15 mins and looks like the doc said no, he came back out changed so pretty clear cut, he seemed ok tho was chatting to nick slyney who was helping out radio Cumbria.

| It didn't look good as Whitehaven clawed their way back, but some credit that we did not collapse, we fought back and a clear win on paper with the scoreline, so many teams this season even if Super League win ugly, but teams are more interested in the points.

| Ascendency does tend to swing each way in games and quite often in 20 min spells, this was classic for that, our intensity and enthusiasm levels dropped haven upped there's and points resulted. We were trying very hard to lose it I feel. I did worry when lovegrove came off but credit to the boys they sucked it up and got on with it. Be interesting to see the outcome of the on report incident, looked like a chicken wing rather than a crusher tackle.
Full respect to the young ball boy, strolled on the pitch at scrum to deliver the ball to the scrum half.

So who's going to be leading the team on the park? Can't afford to lose it can we ? Can't afford a couple of 20 min lapses like Sunday - Haven got on top for a time, Dewsbury will really make us pay!

| Quote ="mickyb1234"Jim thank you for that very insightful input to a thread about a game against Haven.'" He's 12,000 miles away on the other side of the world, how could he comment on a team he never watches?
Quote ="mickyb1234"My view of the game basically 2 good 20 minute halves balanced out by 2 very poor 20 minute halves, luckily haven could not exploit the poor 20 mins as well as they could.
We tried extremely hard to lose this. Negatives first, we missed a leader out there again, not sure how to finish a set especially close to the line. Haven targeted Oscar in defence and for good reason. Again to many Penalties and dropped ball, we seem to be unable to play basic rugby.
Positives, when we did click for the 20 mins each half it looked good, ptb was quick and we dominated the ruck in defence. Individually I thought ray nasso actually had a really good game, Barthue looks good, OT was inventive going forward.
The pack looked pretty good overall making good mtrs in the tackle especially thackers.
Not pretty and a bit frustrating but in the end a win.'" Finally, at long last, we have a reasonable team, but they seem to forget how to play basics. Those 20 minute periods where they were losing the plot it just needed 3 drives, wide for 2, kick for position, and bide their time. The opportunities will come.
I grant you that against the high flyers like Leigh you've got to chance your arm. But against a lot of sides in this division they just need to be patient.

| Perry, it falls into the basic rugby premise, we have struggled with that for a few years.
Throw ball, catch ball, repeat x 6. When defending get in the way of players attacking.
3 drives, push it wide and kick on the last for position
That sums up rugby league, some teams tend to forget that.

TBH I'm not that worried about their defence, it isn't nearly as bad as it has been.
My main point is that they're not very patient. They have a habit of being 12 points up after 20 mins, and attempting a play you only expect to see on 78 mins when 1 score will win it.

Harsh. I flew over for the last ever SL game the Broncos will play with Hughes anywhere near the club and my then 6 week old son got his first taste of RL that day. (I hope he isn't scarred for life). My daughter still attends Broncos games.
watching that game v Bradford and by reading match day reports and through the highlights I have managed to watch over the period JG was in control, we looked totally clueless/rudderless and having no idea what to do when in the opponents 20. JG's sole game plan (IMHO) was to play one out football, tire the part timers out and win in the last 20 minutes. No need to remind you how that panned out....
From what I have seen of the Hendo reign, he looks to have realised that you need a differing game plan at different points of the game, but we still seem to only be good in patches.
My not being at games doesn't preclude me from having an opinion as to the games we play. I have recently said that I believe we should try to work a system by which Oscar Thomas away from defensive hot spot duties in our own 20 as a number of NRL sides do with their halves. Is this opinion not valid, or does it need to be fro someone who "is there" to carry weight.
