| If it's Gillingham then I'm out I'm afraid.
Although the voice of reason, sorry I mean the other half, used to live in Canterbury so a few weekend trips could be arranged.
Orient, I remember being a bit difficult to get to from Reading from my football days, but Brentford would be a dream. Griffin Park is great but a shiny new stadium in the offing is an attractive prospect that we simply MUST look into.

Gillingham, Orient or Brentford......no matter where they go, it will be because of 2 years failure to deliver 1 new fan to the game......they have lost 16% of the fans since it was claimed that 10k averages were the goal......a win is a win and it was fantastic watching it.......but for christs sake, don't make the mistake of thinking everything is OK now........it patently isn't.
As for your abuse......get over yourself Homer, I expected better from someone like you.......disagree all you like, but ease of on the language.

| Quote ="gutterfax"As I understand it, the deal was nearly done, but Brentford came in at the last minute...if DH wants a lasting legacy, then BUY 25% of the Lionel Road stadium.....give the club a proper home.
This move is the last roll of the dice......Hughes won't be around forever and the club will need somewhere to play games for little or no rent once he's gone......Lionel Road would be a win win situation...Orient, just another landlord. Gus reckons Lionel road is up to SL standard.......I thought 10,000 was the minimum capacity...I must have been mistaken because orient is 9,250.....that said, London has only ever recorded a crowd that size on their own once.....in SLI......nothing like aiming low....
'"
How does buying 25% guarantee they will let ue stay there. (not that DH has that sort of money)
If Brentford move out and we move with them we are still tenants and vulnerable to the whims of the soccer clubs needs ( and history suggests we will get screwed)

| It certainly took the wind out of my sails to come home to this news last night
I really hope Gus Mackay and David Hughes are reading these comments and realise that they are giving big eff-you to those that have folllowed for many years, they've lost enough fans already, and now look like they'll be losing even more at the moment.

| Griffin Park followed by a joint move to the planned new stadium sounds a good move (even if there won't be a pub on each corner at the new ground). A problem that people have missed in this is pitch length - although the RL allow occasional games on short pitches in SL, a permanent move now needs a full sized one - if Bradford do move to Valley Parade apparently something like six rows of seats are going to have to go from each end to lengthen the pitch.

I note your recent posts (very limited in number) have targeted the proposed ground, fat players etc. It must be killing you to see the team smashing Cas, Wire, Reds etc.
Turn on the peripheral rubbish as its difficult to vilify the club when they are the form team. Got it.

| Oh well, if there any truth in the move East, then that's the last few nails in the coffin lid for the club as it stands.
After HKR game that's it for me, they can't say it's not been successful in West/South west London as they've had nothing to compare it with, by this I mean back to back successful seasons, with no successful team on pitch they have nothing to sell.
Why have the fans not been PROPERLY consulted if they want another move?

| Despite being on this side of London I don't want us to move from the Stoop. Got home at about half 1 last night but was a fantastic night, no other stadium I've ever been to has such a good 'Matchday experience' - the band after the game were great and if Harlequins can sell it out there's clearly nothng wrong with the location.

| Groundsharing with a football club presents no end of problems. It saddens me that we can't suck it up and keep going at the Stoop, a purpose built rugby venue, great facility that most fans (IMO) appreciate.

| Problem is our support is the widely spread some will want to stay west some will want to go east. Much as i like the Stoop as a stadium and prefer it to Orient and Gillingham i hate the 4 hour round trip and the 3 trains or M25 traffic to get to a game and im not the only one. I guess we would loss some season ticket holders but gain others like me although i would hope the west London lot would still stick with the club once they get used to the idea. Its really not far into Kent (if it is Gillingham?), takes 15-20 minutes off the M25.
Could it be we as a club simply have no choice? Maybe DH is unable/unwilling to pay what Quins want and we have to move?
What if the plan is to move east until the new stadium in Brentford is open, could be a winner from all sides, club picks up new fans from the east then returns west with the pull of a shiny new ground.
Guess its going to be rumour and speculation until we are told officially, whenever that is.

That is just totally hare-brained. Move 35 miles east with the intention of moving back again a few years down the line? The new Brentford ground won't be ready until the 2017 Superleague season according to the publicity when the project was announced a few weeks back. (And that's assuming everything runs smoothly with no delays in obtaining planning permission or during its construction.)
If there is any intention to move in with Brentford at their new ground it would make more sense to stay put until then, in an excellent stadium only a few miles to the south. (Or to move back to Griffin Park if it's compliant with current Superleague criteria.)
Gillingham would end my support of the club. I'm a Londoner, I've always lived within a few miles of Central London, I've got no wish to support a club based in the middle of Kent, or to travel to Kent to watch matches. I like watching Superleague rugby, and whilst Gillingham would still be the nearest place I can do so if we go there, frankly I'd rather book a few cheap train journeys a year to places like Wigan, Warrington, Wakefield etc, all of whom play within walking distance of train stations with direct services out of Euston/King's X, as well as lending my support to Skolars too.
I'm convinced one of the main reason this club struggles for support is that we never seem to go more than five years without changing (a) the club's name, (b) the club's location, or (c) the clubs playing colours. Every time one of these three key elements changes it weakens and dilutes the club's identity. Many of our rivals have played under the same name (give or take some of the "nickname" type names to have been incorporated into club names in the Superleague era) in the same colours and in the same area since the 19th century. We can't even manage to do that for more than half a decade.

| Its the prospect of actually having to go to Gillingham that winds me up the most, not the distance or cost. The place is a dump with absolutely nothing going for it. At least other suggested locations and our current home are in areas with lots of other things to do surrounding the match itself.
What player in their right mind would want to up sticks to Medway? I can't see too many marquee Australians fancying it. Living in South West London is probably one of the only plus points of signing for us.

Hard to argue with that!
And I made this point before, the RFL wanted Medway to move into Champ 1 but they said no for the time being. Why would they want 2 of their 35 odd teams playing in the same town? If it's a city you can get away with it, but Gillingham? Just no!

GF started the thread title with Gillingham? why I am uncertain, except it could be he knew quite well how it will really light the Blue Touch Paper, No One has said it is Gillingham and I agree it would be sad as no way could a club based there be London, I supported and helped with Kent Invicta but that was plain to see never worked.
Yes we have moved around far too much, changed our name, but whatever I have stood firm, I hated Crusaders and the silly badge was even worse, why did the Daily Express not sponsor us. It became clear when discussions with our landlords seemed to go on & on that we were not going to agree. So now is the time to move, the ideal world would be our own stadium which can be built as part of the community used every day of the week, be a base, but how could we find that money, this is what the RFL should have done at the very start or at least when we left Fulham, it would have been an investment could have been a centre of excellence for rugby league in the south. But if we have to move perhaps now is the best time as we are at an all time low, if the move was on the cards was it wise to spend a fortune on marketing? it would have been money down the drain.
We have come back with some good wins this last month since Tony took over the team is looking good, now is the time to build, the ground has to be the right one and the marketing budget has to be right! but we are all just speculating until we know more facts and all the facts!

No ones said the training and housing are moving to Gillingham. Maybe the club are happy with both of these and would coach the players to Kent/ Leyton/ another only on matchdays.
Regards moving east until the new Brentford stadiums built, it may well appear stupid but in reality money talks and unless theres funds to build our own ground or your willing to pay an increased rent then yes we may well be nomads a while longer and possibly moving east. Problem we have as fans is were not privy to who wants how much and for how long. Im sure Brentford would have been considered before now by the club?
